EDIT: I am calling it. Shelter in place by Monday. I hope you can tease about it then.
I don't usually go all chicken little. The Governor kind of hinting at it. I am kinda prepped, but thinking about stocking up or getting any last minute things soon. Including some cash. Personally, if this comes to pass, I believe they will still let folks go to the store (see Italian quarantine). But I am sure there will be some panic. Just saying. In case there is a shortage of Coronavirus threads and all... I do not expect looting, or loss of utilities. Maybe some empty shelves at the stores (intermittently). I also posted this in GD |

While the ban on gatherings of 250+ has restaurants kinda sorta out of scope, caught a snippet of Inslee this morning and I swear he said “people should not be sitting shoulder to shoulder at a bar”, so you may be on to something.

Recent KOMO piece
"These are not easy decisions," Inslee added. "The decisions we are making today and in the coming days are going to be profoundly disturbing, but I believe they are the right ones, the necessary ones, based on how we feel about our loved ones, based on science, based on how we're going to work together." Interesting - and disconcerting - choice of words. That entire quote could be generically applied to anything, Coronavirus or not. I’d expect nothing is off the table at this juncture. |

It is an election year and expect the Gov to make decisions which he (and Fergusson)
will stand upon, to ensure another term. If the remaining Bills don't get pushed thru this session, also expect Bloomburg to toss more money WA way for next year. |

It wouldn't surprise me, but I can't see how that would work. Businesses are already feeling the pain, something more restrictive would hit small businesses really hard.
I'm curious to see how all of the people working from home plays out. I'm in the tech industry and have met with reluctance by my employers to embrace working from home (until the current job) and when they learn their employees can get the job done from home, I wonder if they will come to embrace it. Big benefit for the companies, no (or less) need to have a physical presence. That would save huge amounts of money. Think if Amazon and Google went even 80% remote, Seattle would lose a shit load of revenue. Time will tell. Interesting times. |

Ive heard from 2 different people, completely unrelated to each other with contacts in the gov that the state is going to basically quarantine itself. No traveling in or out of the state.
I was calling BS until the last person said they heard the same rumor. Guess we will find out here shortly. |

Read Champaign, Illinois discussing Declaration of Martial Law.
One of the reported cessations was "no firearm, ammunition, alcohol sales". Also read via Vancouver Sun, Canada (PM Trudeau whose wife has the COVID-13 virus) is looking to shut down the border to the US. What would Martial Law look like here in Washington? |

Yep there it is. Also including recreational facilities, so you can damn well bet ranges are in that mix. All only in King County...for now. Guaranteed this will include Snohomish and Pierce inside of next week. Generically, I can understand the concern of slowing any spread. On the flip side, I don’t trust Inslee for shit not to be licking his lips at a huge power grab opportunity. This pandemic is a perfect opportunity for Olympia to enact all kinds of ‘emergency’ socialist mandates and run our state economy roughshod. I can see exec orders for ‘emergency’ tax hikes to attempt to offset the damage they will cause. As well, grocery stores and pharmacies are exempt...for now. Anyone want to bet how long that will last, and when state-run rationing will begin? Edit: it actually IS state-wide. |

View Quote Italy is currently running #2 behind China in total infections, but the mortality rate is 7.3%. That's double the rate of China. And they've already gone to nearly the same levels of quarantine as the Chinese did. But it's too little too late for Italy. They have 50% of the deaths that China has, with just 30% of the total infections. So there is no denying that going full-scale lockdown has a dramatic reduction effect on the rate of spread, and the subsequent death toll. WA is currently running at 5.4% mortality. So we are trending worse than the Chinese rate right now. Just rip the fucking bandaid off, stop with the slow build bullshit. Oh, and our economy is already fucked, even without any "social mandates" or power grabs by the Democrats. *Yes, all those figures are based on "confirmed" infections, and the total number of real infections is probably higher. Given that it took China 2 months to flatten the curve, with Authoritarian-Communist government control, it almost seems like we are moving too slowly. The reason we are seeing a ramping up of restrictions, instead of a just an overnight Madagascar-Shut-It-Down-Now is because of the majority of Americans being skeptical and the "fuck you, I'll still do what I want" attitude. Folks might want to review SB5260 passed last year and the broad powers granted to the Governor once a state of emergency is declared (many didn't pay attention to this):
https://apps.leg.wa.gov/billsummary/?BillNumber=5260&Year=2019&Initiative=false It may be many a politician's undoing in how they respond to this situation. If they think that telling folks they're supposed to stay inside their homes/on their property for the next X weeks is going to fly, they're quite delusional...lots of folks have lots of responsibilities and obligations outside of their homes besides work that need tending too...medical, elderly family, livestock, groceries (most households don't have multiple weeks of food stockpiled), etc. The talking heads on TV are floating some interesting theories, but they don't sound very realistic in the real world, especially how employers are supposed to treat their employees. Are they hinting smaller businesses are supposed to take out a loan (ie debt) to pay their employees staying at home? Yeah, don't think that's going to work very well. So then employees are supposed to apply for unemployment? But what if they're not unemployed, but rather complying with a quarantine order? And being on unemployment isn't sleeping and doing nothing...normally, folks are supposed to be actively job hunting...again...what if you're already employed but quarantined? Are they modifying the rules and just handing out free $$ to folks staying at home? If they're going to quarantine everyone to home/property, they need to be ready to assume all the financial obligations of those they're denying work/income...ie. stop all bills and be ready to distribute food, meds, etc. If they go that far, this is going to be a HUGE mess for a long time to come. And those have enjoyed public office while under a relatively 'good' economy will likely show their competence, or lack thereof, as this situation evolves. One things for sure...this situation is rapidly evolving at the moment and it would appear we're heading for unprecedented times. Hopefully everybody keeps it cool. IMHO/$.02 worth. Boss |

Apparently someone in my neighborhood died of coronavirus yesterday.
40-ish year old woman. I didn't know her. I think she had underlying conditions. Breast cancer. Probably more. Sadly, I think she was a pretty ghetto person. six kids, the two still at home at middle school and highschool age. The dad died about ten years ago falling down some stairs or something. I remember about 5 years ago she got shot in the leg by her boyfriend. Thinking there might be more bad life choices that I don't even know about that could have caused more underlying conditions. Still sad though. Those two school age kids are know orphans. ALl thigns aside, she lived a few blocks away and was rather young. Makes this flu thing feel a little more 'real' |

Just checking in on you WA guys. Ohio has a pretty massive lockdown. Auto workers all walked off the job here. We had a bunch of people at the Jeep plant get sick and the employees asked UAW to intercede. They promised hand sanitizer and cleaning. When none occurred they walked and shortly after GM and Ford announced shutdowns
Everything is closed, nail salons, barbers, etc. We have a confirmed case in Lucas county. 71 year old guy went to Egypt,. My nurse friend says he will pass soon. They have another community spread case but that one id unplublished. We are where you are with a lockdown but behind you in confirmed cases. How is life there? You guys wearing masks? Working as normal? Are you doing outdoorsy stuff? The hotspots in your state sound bad. Hospitals keeping up at all? The reaction to it in Ohio's reaction suggests all the internet doom is accurate and inevitable. |

I am mostly self quarantining with my family. Stocked up on supplies and order online what I need. I still go out and do hikes since the weather is nice and you don't see many people in the wilderness. Still do things that I want as long as I can avoid people.
I did drop my folks house and dropped some stuff of for them. I didn't go inside there house. I did have a beer with them on the back porch, but tried to maintain the new proper social distance. They are staying in and were just too excited to see me - so it turned into a 30 minute outside visit. They are in their 70's and I worry about them. Of course. |

BAU here for the most part.
I visit customers every day for work and some of them are slow and have no work and some are so busy that I can't do any maintenance, only repair breakdowns. Family is at home and I kind of wish I could stay home with them. I think we're being slow walked to full quarantine (except for food/medical related business). If I "get" to stay home, I'm going to try to get outside more, catch up on house projects and try to use the time to improve my situation as much as possible.(like if I was in prison. Lol) |

Traffic has been amazing! I really hope this spurs companies to look at letting people telecommute more in the future.
Kind of weird to see so many bare shelves in the stores, but hopefully that goes back to normal soon as people realize there is no shortage of anything and the supply lines recover from the panic surge. I have been avoiding our normal costco run for a couple weeks now. Just staying away from the grandparents, doing facetime instead of bringing the kiddos over to their house. |
