Hey - just a quick update about NHRPC.
They now have SWINGING STEEL at every yardage starting at 200. That's steel targets at 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600Y. Square and rectangular plates, approximately 8 and 6". Hats off to the guys who installed it, and the club leadership for improving the range with a tremendously desirable feature. I for one am overjoyed.  If you haven't shot there you definitely need to check it out now.

I not only had the pleasure of assisting in the installation of said steel targets, I was able "pop their cherry".
If you plan on engaging the steel at 600 you will have to set up on the right side of the firing line. |

They are indeed hung with fire hose.
It looked like the ones past 200Y were hit...... "very little." My guess therefore is that they will last a long time  .
Get on 'em boys.... get on 'em........ !!! These are some challenging shots. Staying on a 4 to 6" plate all the way out to 600Y is a test for anyone. How about a challenge who can clean them the fastest? That's 10 targets. Time + the number of rounds required to do it. ––Fargo007 |

I was there last weekend and was loving the steel! I didnt see the ones at 600 , but I wasn't all the way to the right of the firing line. I was banging all the others though. Cant wait to get there again. Love New Holland!

The problem with the 600 yard metal is that the splatter from the bullets hit the target(s) to their rear. The new metal targets are right in front of the regular backboard.
It's one thing to patch up bullet holes, it's another to get all the splatter holes. I kept thinking: Could you put the targets more to the right? Like right next to the backboard? Oh, yeah: you may not always hear the sound, but you do get to see the metal dance if you hit it.  Hmmm....Metal Dance. Sounds like a brand name for something...

That's pretty good shootin with a short gun. 500Y is waaaay past that short gun's effective ballistics envelope.
The steel at contagion was 24x18". these new ones are 6x6 and 12x12 squares, and that's a whole different ball game. These are going to be a challenge to most even with a precision rig. I believe there are some more big ones (like "goldfinger" at 400Y) coming at each distance. I believe the club is in need of someone who can design appropriate stands, brackets, etc. ––Fargo007 |

That's correct.
They are 1" thick RHA (Rolled Homogenous Armor). They've already got the plates and I have seen them. Enough to put one at every yardage. If there's somebody with good metalworking/welding skills out there, we need very sturdy stands and mounting brackets made for them. To my knowledge, this is the only reason they aren't up there right now. ––Fargo007 |
