Well I finally was able to give my oldest son his first rifle. He's 12 years old, gets straight A's in school and is a great kid so what the hell. He has been shooting for years so he knew what he wanted when he finaly got one of his own. The 20" was a little too awkward for him so we went with a 14.5" with the permanent flash hider. The collapsable stock gives him the right length too.
thanks to Jeff at Arizona Armory for making it affordable for us.

Can anyone identify the fruitcake in the background?

Wow, an AR for a first rifle. Lucky kid.

I had to start with an H&R single shot bolt action .22.

He's been shooting my old Winchester Model 190 .22 for years. He was set on getting an AR.
Of course he can shoot all of my rifles whenever he wants.

My eldest son got a 20ga Rem 870 for his 10th birthday last year, and yesterday he got a Ruger 1022 for his 11th birthday. As you can imagine, his mother was thrilled - she gave me that suspicious look and asked what he will be getting for his 12th birthday... now you've given me some ideas .

Now if you can get your son to stop shooting up my targets at the next bench when he sprays with your Mac, you will be all set.

Josh is a good kid.  He seems to always have fun out there.

I took my daughter shooting the 1st time when she was 4 and she loved it.  For her birthday the next year she told me she wanted "a boy barbie for her other barbie dolls and a gun!)

Needless to say my wife got the barbie and I got a 10/22 for her.  Anythime we go camping she remindes me to get the "gun" so we can go shooting...

She is also the same daughter who at 2 1/2 years old helped me skin an elk and who won't talk to me for a week if I leave and go hunting without her.

Who needs boys with a daugher like her!

That's awesome!!!

And as a matter of fact, my first rifle was an AR as well --- but I purchased mine (well, my brother did the actual purchasing part) as a sophomore in high school. My second rifle? An Armalite AR-180. Coolness!
