My lady friend's dad ( real good guy who is stuck in the PRK) is looking for a Savage 112 in .308. His local dealers are quoting about $700. Is it just me or is that a little steep?

Depends.  If it is .308, then it should actually be in the 12 series, not 112.

For a 12 VLP, 12 BVSS or it is a bit high.  If it is a single shot model, then the price isn't too far off.  If it is a 12 FV, then it is overpriced by a couple hundred.

Is it a bull barreled rifle, or standard sporter config?  If it is a sporter weight, then the price is definately high.

I have a Model 12 FVSS with a fluted s/s 26" barrel with target crowning..Short action...And it's in .308. I paid $650 for it with a Harris Bi-pod and a decent scope on it...

A 112 is a long action. If it has a 1 in front of it, it's a long action.

Never mind... misread your statement.  $650 for a FVSS with scope, and bipod is a decent deal for sure.

OK so where does a guy go in Maricopa Co. to pick up a 12 Savage at a decent price?

Seems a bit high for a savage. You have not listed if it has any extras like scope with rings, bipod, or laminate stock. These options add to the price of a Savage. It does sound a bit high because the Savage web site has a 112BVSS for $721, and you should be able to get $150-$200 below suggested retail. By the way, the only 112 on their web site is the 112BVSS (accu-trigger model) which does not indicate a chambering of .308, so it might be an older model, and should go for cheaper since it probably retailed for less in the past.

The only stock Savage that that's not high for is a 10FPLE(1 or 2)B

308 with the McMillan stock.  LEA's have the Choate Ultimate Varmint stock (around $650)

I HATE ARIZONA SPORTSMAN (I go there to price when I want a good laugh)

Sportmans Warehouse (not Arizona Sportsman) has Stevens 200s, in case he wants a basic  hunting gun.  I know it's not a 112 or 12, but it's a great value.  It's insanely cheap, has a blued finish, and the stock is grey instead of black.  They are every bit the quality of the Savage marked guns, and equally accurate.  They just aren't finished as nice.  You can get away with right around $300 with tax.
