I was at the class     and shot  but it was such a long wait for the long range rifle course i decided to skip that stage,  was a big turn out, but still fun,  until they wouldnt let shawn shoot his 60,  ill let someone else tell the story since i had already left

jimbo, i know when im overmatched,  that was a tough stage and we know each other well enough to know i was only giving you hell.   take care and it was good to see you and your boy again.

Shawn waited for an hour to shoot the long range rifle stage...as he was coming up to the line to shoot one of the match staff told him he wasn't allowed to shoot it on the steel.  At first he thought they meant he had AP ammo or something, to which he replied "it's .308"....they then said that he would shoot all the legs off the targets.  Shawn offerred to buy them new legs or new targets for any that were damaged.  They said he needed to go talk to the match director...so Shawn went to go talk to him  The Match Director said he wasn't allowed to use it because "I work at SGC and shoot these all the time, they're completely unctrollable".

1) Our M60 is sighted in and hasn't been beaten apart from constant rental use
2) Shawn actually knows how to shoot it
3) the dozens of people I saw shooting that hit everything except for the targets almost certainly did more damage to the target stands than Shawn would have done, if he had done any damage with them at all.  If they don't want the targets getting damaged, well they shouldn't allow half the people that come to shoot the match.
4) Shawn really would have paid for new targets if they were damaged.

The Match Director also said that "this isn't a machine gun match"...well it isn't, but they've never said anything about it until this point.  Shawn has shot this match with a machine gun almost every time he has attended for the past 3 years.  Since the president of the range unilaterally decided to disallow full-auto on sundays several years ago to appease the local home owners association, the rifle/shotgun match is one of the few opportunities we had to do anything with machine guns but plow dirt at the main range.

I doubt Shawn would have been as pissed off as he was if they had told him after he used it last month not to bring it again then, or at least before he waited an hour to shoot with it this time.

Things like this are why we hold our 3 Gun Match in Waco Texas...similar sized range and facilities and we can do essentially whatever we like.

In spite of the range drama it was a fun match.
