Well, just got home from the Sherrif's training area here in Tucson after applying for a job as a corrections officer.

Had to do a few physical tests consisting of flexibility, push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run.  I passed all of those, but won't say what the times and reps were, since I don't want to put any of you guys to shame

Then had a written test, which I am almost sure I passed (81/125 questions right to pass, I'd better pass it).

Now, I'm going to take a shower and get ready to go to the Three Points shooting range to get a membership and participate in my first match (tactical).  Can't wait.  My girlfriend will probably escort me there too.

Anyway, wish me luck with getting the job (oral interview on the 1st, WOOO!) and not doing anything stupid at the match.

Maybe, or at least a police officer for some city.  As long as I can make it to SWAT in the long run, which is my ultimate goal.

I hope I make it right now.  Think my chances are kinda slim though, probably near 200 applicants, many who probably have military backgrounds, and me being 19 just out of high school.

I agree they offer better pay than AZ DOC too.From what they told me at orientation, there's quite a bit of carrer options with the dept.I only wish I qualified.Good luck and I hope you get in.Keep on trying if you don't get in this time.

They are so desperate for personel they will take anyone who can make it through the tests and background.  Suprisingly few make it through the background due to various personal issues and particularly for such stupid reasons as not having current insurance on your vehicle. A lot of folks get some other job and drop out of the process.  Many drop out just as soon as they take a tour inside the jail.   Age isn't such a concern for getting a job there, so don't sweat that.

I went through the whole process and had the job offer just about 10 weeks ago. The physical standards were reduced to 3 pushups, 1 situp and you could walk the mile.  The department is desparate for personnel and will be down 150 persons the minute the new building opens.

Thankfully a good opportunity came up in my current field and I did not have to work in the jail.  (Just moved to AZ this year)

All they have in the jail is a swamp cooler and during the monsoons it is hell on earth inside that place.  It is freaking cold inside during the winter too.  I have family members who worked there and it is a great place to get started in LE field, you just gotta understand the environment very well.  

Had an interview and had to submit my background info on Wednesday, and now I just have to wait a few weeks for a letter to see if the process will continue.  O=

Hopefully will get to see you on the range at three points sometime. I usually don't go early in the month because the 500 meter range is used for competitions a lot. Plus I'm working 14 hour shifts this weekend. Might see what tuscon has to offer thinking of leaving the military soon. Was playing knockdown turkey's there last weekend. If you see a silver tacoma there shooting either AR's or a savage bolt come on over and say hi

Update:  Got a letter today.  I passed all my tests, and now I have to schedule a Polygraph.  

Things are starting to look pretty good.  Sure hope I can make it the rest of the way.  Think I'll go to the range tomorrow to celebrate.

Nice, the polygraph is easy, they should go over all of the questions with you first.  If any of them confuse you or anything along those lines ask him to leave it out.  They did for me.

The hardest part is the psychological tests...it turns out I'm nucking futs, but don't let that stop you...
