It's a little early but at this point it would appear she's coming; we just don't have a ground zero yet. All the models and spaghetti thingy's are starting to show congruence which is a big hint.
If you're willing, check in with your city/county. I should have power/internet for the duration of the storm either through my own power or work so I'll update this as it goes if people are interested. I'm in Viera, Brevard County. Also, if anyone needs a hand with preps (shutters, etc. etc.) let me know. |
Red 5 standing by (Jupiter, N. Palm beach county) all quiet. Initiating storm defenses at 0800.
Unincorporated (west) Boynton Beach; Palm Beach County, checking in.
Godspeed guys; I hope we catch a break and can post that overturned lawn chair picture after Irma misses our state entirely. |
I'm in Lee County...
I'm gonna ride it out. Let's hope it's just some more wind and rain. |
Wellington (Palm Beach County) checking in & standing by... watching updates closely...
Seminole area, Pinellas County.
Watching the Official Irma thread in GD, lotsa FL Arfcommers sharing knowledge there. I plan to ride it out here rather than run out of gas halfway between Tampa Bay and the Georgia border. |
Brevard County / Palm Bay here. Watching closely. Hopefully UCF will cancel classes on Friday so I can get a jump on putting shutters up. Not sure If I'll leave, even if its close as wife will be stuck at hospital for work. All cars filled and 10gals extra if I leave town to dump in the truck without worrying about a gas station.
Loxahatchee here. Palm beach county. Good luck guys. Stay safe.
Seminole county / Oviedo here. All prepped and ready, if it makes it this far north.
Jax here. Plan is to duck and cover, unless a direct hit from a cat 4 or better is imminent. If that is the case, will evac to Macon GA where I have reserved a hotel room.
sparkyCG in Coral Gables.
Been through every one since "Donna" and the house is a lot older than me. Stay safe |
Sanford, Seminole County here, vehicles fueled, generator fueled, trees trimmed back from the roof and leaves swept. Water laid in.
I'm FD in Brevard, so if it detours up the east coast, I'll be on duty. Looks like you guys in the south are gong to bear the brunt though. Good luck. Hope Black Fox got the Arfcom Yacht secured... |
Tallahassee area, and we're already seeing all the big box stores sell out of water, TP, batteries, etc.
If necessary, I'll be evacuating to GA since I have family there. Plenty of back roads from here, so I can avoid interstates all together. |
Sarasota Checking in, will most likely be locked down for work. Family go/no go will be determined tomorrow.
Hillsborough/Valrico.
I replaced my fence four months ago. $4K. Guess what my hurricane deductible is? $4K. |

She's got good sense, but I'm kind of worried over here. ETA: I forgot... missus and I were visiting last year. Left the day before Matthew! Father of the year! |
(Palmetto manatee) if anyone needs a hand just give me a shout.
Central Broward checking in.
BHDT before ( I'm a native! ), but I'll admit 185mph winds makes me a tad nervous. In an attempt to whistle past the graveyard, and not let on to the wife and kids that I'm a bit nervous about this one, I've decided that this is my theme music for the next week or so . Scorpins - Rock You Like A Hurricane |
Rockledge, Brevard County checking in. Gonna wait until tomorrow night or Thursday to decide if I stay or go. Got my mother in Palm Bay who always loses power during any decent sized storm. I have an Aunt in Knoxville, Tennessee that we could visit. Planning on staying unless it looks like it will make land fall here first.
Hialeah checking in plenty of preps, gas, propane, and fire power if anyone needs a hand over here.
Daytona area checking in. Lines at the pumps were long this afternoon. Lucky I filled up last night. Now if I can just get my wife to stop driving all over the place...
Volusia County - Daytona Beach Shores checking in
I plan on riding it out |
Merritt Island (Brevard County) I'm currently working out of town trying to get home to prepare.
Bradenton/Manatee here. Havent decided whether to stay or go yet. This is my first FL hurricane.
Naples, Collier. House was born in '59 and added on to later.
So, two roofs going different directions. Rest is concrete block except enclosed porch. All ready except for minor details, more gas, concrete nails and tapcons. Will do today. Will have SIL, 38 year old son and girlfriend at least 2 cats or maybe 5. Anyone want a cat? Also watching 6 other properties. |
Port Charlotte/Englewood checking in.....
Riding it out....... |
Gibsonton (east side of Tampa Bay)...on a salt water canal on the Alafia river...will go help mom (86) 11 miles away in Brandon...always rode them out for 32 years on the river...this one has me very concerned

The plan right now is to stay put but that's subject to change depending on how this thing looks as it gets closer. Matthew wasn't bad, half of Melbourne never lost power! Hoping folks get that lucky this time as well. View Quote Her and her fiance put the storm shutters on with little problems. They said they thought it was the first time they had been put on because the studs were painted over and had to be cleaned. BTW, I just saw on FB that there is a graphic showing it downgrading to a four just north of Cuba with it as a three over the southern tip of Florida heading straight up the state. |
Royal Palm/West Palm here
Undecided on what I'm doing. Was going to visit my dad in NC but I think they could get hit too. |
Western Broward county, house all set to be buttoned up got human and pet food. Plenty of water, gas , propane. Trying finish up clearing the yard of missiles. Room in garage for our car and motorcycle. Hurricane garage door and I have a support for the center to help keep it in place doing something similar to our hurricane rated front door.
Trying to stay calm since getting all worked up will do nothing to change the outcome. Wishing everyone stays safe in the upcoming week. |
Palatka/ Putnam County area here. Gotta go out and mow the grass shortly.
Just in standby mode for now. Only takes a few hours to button everything up and bug out if needed. Been dragging hurricane supplies through several moves in the last 35 years here in Fl, so I'm set if I stay. |
Alachua County, up 441 toward Alachua. All good here. Filled three 6 gallon gas cans this morning. All they had was high test, at $3.24 a gallon. Don't expect to lose power or water, but then you never know. Every thing else is prepped, and has been since last hurricane season. :)

Same AO. View Quote Our timeline (always has flux) is to pack up clothes and baton down the hatches today. Depending on the path and CAT#, Friday 8am or Thursday PM at 5pm, we're making a go/no-go decision. We'll haul ass up the turnpike then go west to Tampa via Yeehaw junction. Those of you traveling, before you choose your route, couple of tools: FL DOT has a website which has their traffic devices tied into it statewide for real time feeds and an app: https://fl511.com/ Google Maps "Traffic" layer turned on also has new data being pulled in same for Waze too. Personally ridden out 30 years of hurricanes in Louisiana. This is the first storm that's got us on edge. |
Been feeling an eery calm about this. May have lost a marble somewhere.

Got some supplies... got some gas this am... keeping personal and work vehicle topped off... some stations are out, some have plenty, will go in cycles for the next few days I'm sure.
I'll be manning our county EOC starting Friday... until who knows when. The EOC is inside the SO thus I can crash in my office if need be. Wife and kids on their own as usual... I'll travel home daily after my shift if at all possible. My work truck has 4x4 and a 12,000 wench so with that and a chain saw not much will get in my way other than live power lines. |

Pinellas/St. Pete/Shore Acres/Venetian Isle (aka Flood Acres).
If the path stays east, I'm riding it out in my stilt home. Plan on getting a time lapse. Battery backup being charged, food/water/etc preps complete. Boarding up windows in a few days if it stays bad. Edit-3 weeks ago I planned on removing 4 big palm trees and cutting one back a Banyon a lot. It's getting done today. Damn if I didn't wait for the City of St. Pete to issue me a permit this would be done by now. |
Pembroke Pines in West Broward here.
We are staying up as we have plenty of food, water, portable ac, generator, etc...I just need some more gas. |
Plantation/Broward here. Making the decision to stay/go tonight, just don't know how far northto go. I'm hoping for some divine intervention to turn this b**** back out to sea.
