Does any one know any secrets about this road in the Everglades, if so would you share? It is west of Krome Ave about 30 miles.

when a bear was hit by a car
on 41 the highway patrol had
it taken to the home for unwed
mothers that was about 1/2 way
down the loop. They intern
fed the bear meat to the
ho's. Is that the kind of seceret
or is it some other kind of secret

Or how bout this one
it is one of the best kept
secret. That there is
deer that can be taken
off the loop, even some that
were transplanted from
Wisconsin and weighed
200lbs + the secret is
there is no deer to be had
in the whole area along the loop
50lbs or 200+ lbs  but there is hogs
lots of hogs

That there is several Indian burial grounds
along the loop and as a part of their
burials they sprinkles small beads
over the site many of them gold. Now when
it rains if you look carefully at the ground
after a heavy rain the beads come to the

I found plenty of small beads
none were gold.

So true I think pushed a swamp buggy
through the flag ponds more than I rode it .
When the water was deep the only way to keep from stalling
the motor was to remove the fan belt driving the
radiator fan. the water around the engine block
and around our knees would keep
the motor cool.
I got pitched out after hitting a fire rut
and broke two ribs after being run over and
smuched into the mud by the front tire.
I'd do it all over again, it was great fun.

Btw what was the name of the bar that was
1/2 way down the loop? I forgot, I spent a
few too many nights there.

For those with access to National Geographic Magazine
online they did a large story before the government
snatched all the property out there and along Turner River road.

Is it safe to assume that possession of a firearm (concealed or otherwise) is a big NO-NO, given that this is property of Los Federales?

last time I was out there (it's been 12 years due to back injurys)
a management stamp and vehicle permit was needed.
I am not sure if guns allowed anymore.
PS: there are turkeys out there but almost never see em

Loop road is listed as a "scenic drive" in NPSs  Big Cypress brochure.  It IS in the Big Cypress Preserve, but then, so is Tamiami Trail.  Keep your weapons "secured".  Keep your vehicle ON road. Rest assured that no one will ask for a "permit" of any kind unless you're bothering the wildlife or tearing something up. I had the jeep there a few months ago, but anything higher than a vette could have made the drive. BTW ... if you just want to show out-of-towners a "taste" of it,  head off the Trail (South) from Monroe Station to Sweetwater Strand; about 5 miles. That stretch is fairly smooth and the Strand is an easy taste of the Glades for people who have little time.  Take bug spray.
