My recoil spring guide rod is loose, it has a slight wobble, and I was wondering if welding the rivet to the back plate would affect the metal? If it would work,it seems like an easy fix,but I would'nt want to weaken the integrity of the metal around the guide rod.Any help would be great.

You can weld on the backplate just be careful. It will only take a spot weld to secure the rod. Just be sure to remove the spring or pull and clamp it away from the backplate while welding. then grind down any high spots or the plastic won't go all the way back on.
