I'm a really big fan of "rolling your own". I don't want to get flamed or start a war but can I get a general feel on the difficulty level for assembling your own from parts? It appears that the components are stil relatively available and I'm seriously thinking about assembling one. I have a lot of experience with other manufacturers (and ARs needless to say) but I have zero experience with the HK line. I just bought a Mark 23 a while ago and the more I read, the more I like HK.

I think I got the bug.

you'll need a TIG welder.

And a decent shop press,  bout' a 10 ton should do it.

Tig welding is going to be the hardest part of the job.  There are a couple of good posts on FALfiles on the HK91 build process.

This is one for the fire control group modification
and
This is for the barrel and cocking tube
and
The third installment

12 ton press and a mig welder have built mine...

eta..

While a bottom budget AK builder can assemble one with a vise and hammer, you will need the proper tooling to do anything with the HK line.  If you skimp, you will regret it.

On that note, I have found that the HK is more about fitting than just slamming everything together.  I think it is easier to do an HK  than an AK at this point in my builds.  Once you get everything demill'd, and fitted, a couple of welds and some grinding/smoothing and you are done.

A press is not needed unless you use a new barrel and trunion.
