I'm in severe need of a two stage buffer for my 91, and I see them around sometimes for 100-200 (mounted in stocks), and I'm curious if they came this way, or if people stuffed them in there afterwards?

order of buffers, and on what rifles/stocks they come out of the factory on,

HK-91, single plunger-short stroke
Msg-90 single plunger-long stroke
PSG-1 double plunger-short stroke
HK-21 double plunger-long stroke

As for stuffing of the above listed ones into a stock HK-91 stock, they all will fit, but you need to come up with/make the end cap attachment piece within the stock cavity.

I hear the G3 heavy reduces recoil substantially.

I would love to feel the difference in an A vs. B test.

The recoil with a standard is not terrible. I would be interested in taming it a little more but I cannot rationalize the $180.00 or $200.00 I have seen these things going for. This is an aftermarket area I would easily spend 50 or 75 bucks in. I have the HK21 butt pad which is nice but that big buffer does look nice and squishy.

Maybe the licensee countries like POF should make them.

I don't mind the recoil of the HK91, but if you could reduce it even by a quarter, I'd pay at least a hundred bucks for that.

Do you have a HK21 butt pad on your rifle?

I don't, I'm looking to get one *and* the heavy buffer.  I figure that combo would be pretty sweet.

From my experience,  you may want to try just the butt pad before you go through the trouble and expense of replacing the buffer.

I have a HK21 buttplate and didn't notice any difference. Then I got one of those E&L (I think it's called that) extensions which added an inch and a half. That did the trick and recoil slap went away.

Funny thing is, after shooting a bunch of hot Lake City ammo I put the retractable metal stock on and feel fine with it. I hated it before, now it feels quite nice.

I just put a G3 heavy buffer in an original HK G3 stock.

I also have the HK-21 soft rubber pad on it.

The combination works well for me.

The kick is around 1/3 of what it was.

There is an odd push to shooting the rifle with the
2 stage buffer.
While it soaks up much of the recoil ,it also slows
what is left of the kick down.
What you get is more of a push than the kick of
the original.

The push is slower ,and makes it easier to keep your
sight alignment between shots .
At 100 yards ,I can keep my iron sights alligned and on
the 16 inch targets between shots.
Making follow ups on the same target or on a new target
faster.

There were quite a few HK-91 stocks imported with Heavy buffers
already in them.

Be aware that if you install one on a standard stock ,you will have
to cut up and remove the plastic piece inside the buttstock,as well
as bore out the steel area where the buffer enters.
A heavy buffer is 23 mm wide ,the standard is 20 mm.

This is the piece that you run a bolt through and into the
buffer.

I'm going to modify the inside of my stock with resin so I
can still use the back bolt.

It would be done if I wouldn't have had an accedent with some
chemicals and discolored my stock !
