My buddy has been there since December and is getting along well. I've been sending him stuff as often as I can, apparently I've helped fuel his new cigar habit. They're probably one of the few troops who has a bad ass humidor and a nice supply!

I'm a M16 guy, so I'm not sure what he's asking for here. Figured I'd ask the hive mind and see if I can get any pointers.

Can you look around for a decent scope mount for the M14?  I've been able to
get my hands on a SGN or 2, but I haven't been able to find any that looked
good and sturdy.  Found a scope that I'm probably going to get, one of the
Leatherwood HiLux scopes with the M1913 compatible rail.  If you can find
one with an NSN, that would be great, since I can probably get the guy in
the arms room to order it for me.

Can you guys point me in the right direction so I can help him out?

Thanks,
Doc

+1 in a big way. The other alternative is an ARMS mount which I personally have. Both have NSNs and are rugged as heck.

Okay, here's the dumb question - what's a SGN?  Is it just a scope mount?

I don't think so - that wouldn't make any sense as to what he's talking about in his email..

Isn't it the number the military issues to items so folks know they are military approved?  Sort of a purchase number?

SNG = shotgun news and it makes sense. I send SNG and a bunch of other gun rags evey month I bet others do too. He says I've been able to
get my hands on a SGN or 2, but I haven't been able to find any that looked
good and sturdy.
to me this means a copy or two, he is looking at the pic's for the sale ad's.

NSN = supply part number. Without a good number he cant order it through the system.

Here is the NSN and mounts

I don't think he's that ADD that he'd start talking about shotgun news in the middle of a paragraph dedicated to the M14, scopes, and scope mounts.

Is there anything else that SGN could refer to in terms of a M14? Maybe a style of scope mount?

What is ADD about it? He says he needs a mount, he looked in Shotgun News but didn't see any he thought were rugged enough. Just email the lad what we gave you.

=====

Good, let him know there will be a massive delivery of the Smith Enterprise, Inc. M14 Scope Mount (viewer, Mount), NSN 5755-01-506-5750 in the coming days.  That's the one he should order, unless he has an ACOG for this M14, in which case he needs their M14 MIL STD 1913/ACOG Mount, NSN 1005-00-535-4430.
