[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I finally got around to it.

I've been meaning to post a picture of a recent build. This is my first Garand, and my first Garand build.

I'm happy with how the rifle shoots and looks. I do think I should of went with a GI receiver instead of a CAI made one. I guess I could always change it out down the road.

Of course, this means I have a new type of ammo to buy in bulk.

Nice work. I just started cleaning up my CMP rifle M1 and 1903A3 and these things are addicting. How hard was it to put together?

Once I figured out how to do it, and had the necessary tools, it wasn't to difficult at all. The hardest part came from the receiver I used. I needed to do some fitting of the charging handle to get it to ride smoothly in the receiver.

I also had some warn parts that came in the original kit needed to be replaced.

You can buy a replacement receiver from CMP, USGI, various conditions and various manufacturers. IIRC from 150-250 bucks depending on brand and condition.

I'm sure if you got your CAI working than it's not a big issue, but to me it's a no brainer to go with the original.

Anyways nice job! I'd like to put one together someday. I got my 1st M1 on the way and just got my 1903 already from CMP.

I managed to get the receiver for $110 out the door, so I felt it was worth the effort to try it. It definitely took some extra effort to make it work, but the finished product just isn't as nice as the originals.

I'm a CMP member and run a CMP affiliated club and have yet to take advantage of their deals. The only thing I've bought through them, has been some Avanti air rifles for our 4H team. I guess I should start looking into some more of their stuff.

Yes, I installed the barrel myself. Once I had the barrel vice, receiver wrench, and head space gauges it wasn't to bad.

The only difficluty came when the barrel didn't index properly when tightened. I found the trick to solve this problem and it was all downhill from there.
