....... will steel case ammo damage a chrome chamber ? A friend gave me several boxes of Russian for me to try in my new toy and was just wondering
Since Im new to the M14 format, Ill have lots of dumb questions. So be forewarned.

The steel cases are pretty soft, and chrome is usually hard, so my guess it it would not hurt, at least in limited quantitiy. OTOH, Russki ammo, with a few exceptions, is not noted for its accuracy, so what would be the point? And it tends to run dirty. Personally, I wouldn't, but that's just me. |

I've fired about 15K of Chinese 308 steelcase ball through my FAL's, M14's, AR10's, G3S, Garands and Galil with no problems.
Believe I still have about 4 or 5K of it left and will have no problems running that through my guns... But to answer the question, steelcase ammo will do no harm to the chamber. |

No. You're fine. The only disadvantage is that the steel case will not expand in the chamber like a brass case will. Therefore, the argument has been made that you lose gases around the case as the round is fired. However, if all you're doing is plinking and need cheap ammo, it should suffice. I'm no ammo expert, but this is what I have heard many times. |
