Does it allow you to close the bolt like an AR15?
If so this would alow you to change the mag with the left hand alone?

Yes it does allow you to use it like the AR15 bolt release.

Whatever floats your boat, get the one oyu like.  Im going smith because I like the smith parts, already got hte scope mount, might as well do a smith theme with my gun.

I have the SEI bolt stop on three of my M1A rifles including the full auto version.
