I bought this scale used in 1997 and was curious to know how old it might be. It's an Ohaus 5-10.

Would it be off the mark to assume that Ohaus still makes scales for RCBS, Dillon, Hornady, Lyman, etc.?

IIRC, the 5-10 was introduced in the mid-sixties, and discontinued a few years back.

I would guesstimate the box to be from before 1980.  Early 1980s boxes were white, I think.

Great looking scale!

Makes you wonder how reloaders managed to reload back then without electronic scales, reloading software, Armory -> Reloading forums

The same way most of us do it today.  Reloading manuals and beam scales.  Cheap, accurate, and makes the same rounds guys with all the doodads make.  Every time.

I have a different Ohaus scale in the same box, ca. 1972.

Presuming the scale was purchased in the mid-late 70s...

$42.50 (as marked on the box) was a pretty hefty sum back then.

My old man is still reloading with a scale just like this.  He bought his in the late 70's I believe.  Even with his outdated tech he still seems to be able to work up loads that shoot better than what I come up with.  Experience>Technology

I've got the RCBS version of that scale that I bought new in '75, it's still my primary scale.

My 2013 vintage 5-0-5 RCBS bears Ohaus markings.
