Rarely does a day go by that I don't pop in my reloading room and do something.  A lot of the time is due to some inspiration that I picked up on here, whether it was a subject topic or something that someone may have mentioned in their reply.

Today's reloading interest involved something Angus6 mentioned in a thread a few days ago, and that's using Hornady locking rings to switch dies back and forth on his 1050.  I never used Hornady's locking rings, and in fact pretty much stayed away from locking die rings due to most of them boogering up the die threads somewhere along the line.  An exception might be Dryflash's die ring mod with the lead shot.  I picked up some Hornady lock rings.  In short, I wish I would have done it a long time ago!  Those things are great!

So I spent my morning getting my .223 case prep dies out of my 650's tool head and setting up the case preparation and reloading die set up with the lock rings for the 1050.  The lock rings are a lot cheaper than an additional tool head and pretty quick to change out.  Maybe not quite as fast as a $200 tool head, but fast enough for the savings!

Too bad I didn't have the rings last week when I prepped close to 5 gallons of 223 for a good friend!  It would have been more efficient on the 1050, instead of once through the 650 for sizing / decapping and trimming and once through the 1050 for swaging.

By the way, I think Angus6 is a bad influence.  He has been responsible for me spending a good chunk of change with his common sense ideas!
So, what did you do today in the world of reloading?

Props for snagging 10k of #500

Ordered this workbench from Lowes today.
And I ordered the flush mount setup from Inline Fab. I also got the quick change plates for the XL750 and a Rockchucker.

Unfortunately, the workbench won't be delivered until 88/2020. But that gives me time to clear out this mess. I have a bookcase that's twice as wide as the one pictured that I'll put there that will store components.

Shit some reloads today:

6.5x55 with 120 gr Hornady Interlocks and IMR 4350

6.8 SPC with 115 gr GD and A2200

The 6.5x55 shot very good pretty much across the charge ladder.  6.8 shot pretty mediocre across the charge ladder.  Going to run the targets through BallisticX and cogitate on the results.

Since I had several stretches as the volunteer RSO with no one on the range, I safed the range and spent a little time picking up leftover brass while cleaning up old targets and trash.  I filled a quart ziploc with random pistol brass.

Picked up a few pounds of powder at a local shop.

Then one of the guys I shoot with decided to switch powders a few months ago and offered me a 4 pound unopened container of Titegroup for $65. Took a while to meet up with him but I finally got it.

Placed a group order with two friends for bullets. We ordered 14,000 9mm bullets from RMR. My mail lady will hate me.

Had a oddball lot of used brass (35 pieces or so) so I loaded up some 245 gr cast for my 375 winchester Marlin.

For those who don't know 375Winchester ammo is not really available.

Next up some 220 Sierra jacketed with RE-7.

Thank god Starline started making 375Win cases

It looks like you could use that mount to prop up a tank while you messed with the road wheels...

I am trying to avoid spending a bunch of money on Dillon toolhead storage bases, so I spent time working on some DIY ideas in that direction.  I'm progressing, but I don't have anything actually done yet.

Funny thing; I still only have one caliber setup for the Dillon...  But I don't think I'm getting ahead of myself.

Small number of rounds with 5.9 grains of Universal and 200 grain SWC

Half plain lead, other half Hi-tek coated.

Will chrony using a government size 1911.  These should make major plus a bit of margin.  Curious to see if the velocity differs between coated and non-coated.

Neck turned about 100 cases, removing about 0.002" of thickness.  Having to neck turn really sucks.

Now the bushing in my die works reasonably well with the brass and I can seat bullets without crushing the cases or denting the bullet tips.

Neck turning was really key to being able to use this batch of brass.  It seemed like a trade off of neck turning, buy a new/custom bushing or buy a finishing reamer.

Also, I now have about 0.004" neck clearance on the diameter, maybe even 0.005",... maybe.

I ordered a couple ammo cans and 1k small pistol primers from Midway then another 1k from my wife's account to another address.

Sized 1,000 5.56 cases. Dillon carbide sizing die and Hornady one shot makes for very easy sizing.  Can do around 1,000/hr in my Hornady LnL

I've had it for a few years,  never used it.  Probably gonna sell it and invest in more reloading supplies.

Today’s agenda: swaging a 5 gallon bucket of 223, can’t wait to pull the trigger on a CP2000  and RL1100....

Ran 100 new Remington 6.5x55 cases through the sizing die.  Cartridge mouths were all diets of dented and out of round.  99 are in the tumbler for a final polish.

One case beck was pre-split by Remington at the factory and missing a chunk of brass, so into the scrap bin.

Ran about a hundred more 6.5x55 cases through the resizing die.

Extremely frustrated to discover RCBS does not include a 6.5mm pilot in the Trim Pro 2 kit.  I had simply assumed with the popularity of 6.5mm cartridges it would be included.

So I ordered a Trim Pro 3-way cutter with 6.5mm pilot from Midway.  It should be here at some point either later this week or later this summer.  Who knows.

The 60 to 75 rounds of 9mm I cranked out the other night I had the EGW/Lee Under Size die in Station #1 of the 650 toolhead.  Like usual, the Dillon Powder Measure was in station #2 .  It was taking a lot of “ uummphh! “ to resize the cases.

So I moved the Dillon PM to station # 3 , the U die to station #2, and a Dillon resizing die to station #1 .

EDIT:  still had the Redding Micrometer seating die at Station #4 and the Lee FCD at  #5.

With the Dillon resizing die at Station #1 as like a pre-re-sizer, it took less uumph (aka elbow grease) to resize the cases.  The EGW/Lee U die still did a final squish on the cases.  The added bonus was the Dillon sizing die has more of a radius at the bottom of the die, so case placement was less critical.  All this brass was left UNlubed.  Both resizing dies have carbide inserts.

And yes, I checked the Dillon PM multiple times to make sure it was throwing consistent charges.

EDIT AGAIN:  I made 100 rounds like that and measured each for OAL and case gauged every single one of them before boxing them and giving them green stripe across the headstamp treatment.

Did not have a single one fail the case gauge.

Sunday I cruised over to Runnings and grabbed a Hornady LNL Powder measure, so I could have one dedicated to pistol and one for rifle, and the last box of Berry's 230gr Plated 45.

Got home saw dryflash's post about some powder at Graf's and ordered up 16# Unique, 8# IMR4198, and 8# IMR4064. These are my go to powders for simplicity over the calibers I shoot. Probably should have grabbed 8# IMR4350 as well.

Went online and ordered some LNL die bushings, sure lock rings, and case activated powder die to complete the little things I needed to expand the calibers I am running.

Yesterday I started looking through my library of manuals to look at some loads I want to work on.

Still in the debating phase of getting into casting as I work at a car dealership and have access to a lot of wheel weights......

Surprisingly, academy sports had a bunch of Hornady .45 XTP and come XTP 124g 9mm Bullets in stock at the store.  So I bought a few boxes of each. They are out of loaded ammunition.  It's nice when you reload, because a lot of the stuff is still in stock. And it was at the old prices.

Keep thinking aobut it, but start collecting now.  If you get into it later, great!  If not, lead is always easy to sell off to others who reload.

Staying on topic: I finished assembling my new reloading table and installing my new Inline Fabrication hardware (Micro Ultramount and a Flush mounted plate).  I'm working on press storage now and should have that sorted by the end of the week.  I'm also hoping to have an under-table cabinet built by the end of the weekend so I can increase the stability of the table.

I placed two orders on Monday.  Dillon didn’t have the caliber conversion I wanted in stock, so I got that from Amazon (about the same price as Dillon with Dillon’s shipping).  But nobody else had the extra case feed adapter I needed, so I got that and a powder funnel from Dillon.  When it’s all in, I will be able to set up for .223, 300 Blackout and .380 Auto.

I got shipping notice from Dillon today, and that should be her Saturday (at least according to FedEx right now).  The Amazon shipment should be here Sunday.
