I have a pre-64 Win model 70 rifle in cal 30-06 & want to reload for it. What powder & charge & what bullet type & wt. for good accuratecy. I am only interested in shooting paper, no hunting Thanks in advance.

I'm going to load some 30-06 for my F-I-L but haven't loaded any yet but have some(50+) 30-06 OF Win brass I picked up at the range from hunters sighting in their rifles. I bought a set of Hornady FL dies and sized the brass back to factory head space until I can get some brass shot from his rifle, trimmed on my Cam-Lock trimmer since I have a Hornady shell holder for it. I done the rest of the brass prep on my Trim Mate just had to change the PP uniformer to LR and have one box of 150gr Barnes X bullets to load for him but as far as powder I'm just going to use what slower powders I have on hand(Varget, H4895, any suggestion here also?) and I have one pack of CCI LR BR primers I'm going to use since 100 rounds will last him a long time.

I know no real help but that's all I know about 30-06 as of now.

Powders, I like slower burning fuel in my two 30-06's both bolt guns Imr 4320 and 4350 and lately  ramshot Big Game,   accuracy bullets for paper Sierra Match Kings, Berger VLD's, Hornaday Amax's  from 150 to 175 grains charges start at the lowest reccomended charge and try 52 grups of 5 rounds till you find one that shoots well in your gun.

I always got good results with IMR 4350 and 150 grain bullets. 150s and 165s should work well in your rifle. Sierras are always nice, but one of the most accurate loads I ever worked up was with bulk Remington 150 grain SP bullets that I got from Midway or somewhere.

I use H-4895 for my Garand loads and H-4350 for my hunting loads.

Look at H-4350 with 165/168gr bullets.

52.0gr is a good starting load.

I'm gonig to suggest Sierra's 155' Palma bullets or any brand 168 match bullets and IMR-4064. Start around 46 grains with GI brass, 47 grains with Winchester and work up.
