Im working on cleaning up a KABAR that had some surface rust on the blade, but under the leather handle the tang had some deeper pitting.

Whats the best way to protect the steel thats going to be covered up by leather long term?

Powder coat or a spray on bake to set coating maybe

bake on coatings would have been best, but I wanted to get this done today though. Im bad about leaving things disassembled in piles if I dont get it done in a day/weekend

I used coldblue on the metal surfaces under leather, and a leather reconditioner on the leather washers. Turned out pretty well for a $13 investment
