The Ruag brass has 2 different types, match and standard. Im not sure if this applies to 50 BMG brass, you'll have to contact the company and ask them.

From what I hear, their match brass is on par with Lapua. Hopefully their regular brass is held to those kind of standards.

I try to use good quality brass for match projos like AMAX, one less variable to deal with. You don't have to shoot matches but if you shoot extremely long distances you want the best components for doing this.

The picture is of a target we use out in the desert, it's set up at 2000 yards. You get to see how big a difference there is between ball, AP... and match projos. Also brings to light those little white lies people tell when they compare their match projos to 50 BMG surplus.

The pic was taken through a Nightforce scope, one mounted on a friend's rifle, so i would have to check their website to know for sure.

That and the pic was taken about 15 years ago, so it would be an older reticle. I do know that the reticle is good for ranging. The first time I posted that pic here, someone guessed the distance before I even posted it.

As for shooting in the desert, we have thousands of acres of BLM land on the left coast. We could probably shoot a couple of miles or more if we wanted to. You just have to know where those big ass bullets are flying! We've had people on dirt bikes ride right past our targets!

Could you imagine what that guy would be thinking about after having his bike blown out from between his legs! "Holy shit, whose shooting artillery at me!" Could you imagine if this hit him!?

If you're talking about that big green tube? That would be a bowling ball mortar and they are beyond fun to shoot!

Where's the best place to get information on the bowling ball mortars?  I know that most use an acetylene torch tank for the tube but that's about all I know and would like to learn more.  TIA

You use an oxygen cylinder, the big ones and then cut the bottom off. Just enough so that a BB will slide into the cylinder.

What was the top of the cylinder with the valve to open it up, now becomes the bottom. You'll have to machine a nob to screw into where the valve was and become a ball to fit into the socket of your base plate.

Yeah, you have to make everything!

You need to go to Dixie Gun Works and get a Canon Lock and a nipple that will use a shotgun primer or Canon primer. They should be able to set you up with the correct nipple.

You need to make a flash tube to connect to the nipple and then drill a hole from the outside of the cylinder to the inside. Needs to go as close to the bottom of the cylinder, the end that used to be the top. The Canon lock will be attached to the side of the cylinder so that the flapper on the lock will hit the primer on the flash tube.

Now that you have your base plate made and the ball thats in the cylinder, snap it into the socket on the base plate. Last parts to make are the legs and T&E for the mortar. Look at the pics to get an idea or if you can find a set of legs for sale... might save some time but probably not money.

Now that you're done and have everything together, you're ready to shoot it. If you want to proof test it, to be sure the cylinder is good. Get two balls and a pound of FFE black powder (its that or FFF, I'll ask a friend). Put 1/2 pound into the bottom of the cylinder  and then load both balls.

Get back far or behind some cover or both, with that long piece of string attached to the flapper on your Cannon lock. When ready, pull the string, don't baby it, give it a good whip so that the flapper hits the primer hard enough to set it off.

If you did everything right, you should hear a loud BOOM and see two BB's flying through the sky! Be sure to inspect your tube after the test firing. If all is well, use 1/4 pound and a single ball after that for future flights!

MrBen that posts here, who's also an 06FFL will load ammo for you any way you want.

He can do new brass, WCC comes with sealant in the necks and primers sealed. Load to mil spec, if you want it that hot or loaded to what works in your gun.

If you have the components but Don't have a way to load them. He can load them up, you just have to ask him for a price on that. I know it's different from his regular cost.

If you can find blue tip, buy them, they're scarce and getting harder to find all the time!

As for the blue tip detonating, I'm pretty sure that the reason for this was due to the projos being resized. Most guys figured that small cracks formed between the jacket and inner core.

When fired, the gases find their way into these cracks and start the incendiary mix on fire. They get a few feet out of the barrel and you get a bang.
