What exactly is the difference between the two, they are both steel core, correct?  If M2 penetrates more, exactly how much more and why would somebody even use ball then?  Thanks for any information in advance.

Ball ammo is just a mild steel core, the AP core is a hardend chromoly steel core. They no long produce .50 AP, all the new stuff is API.

The reason for ball is just to keep blasting a target once you hit it. The API, APIT and or Raufoss will fill in depending on how it was loaded from the factory/arsenal.
