The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) issued a solicitation for a family of Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifles, the so-called SCAR, designed around two different calibers but featuring high commonality of parts and identical ergonomics.

The SCAR is manufactured in two main versions; the SCAR-L ("Light") and SCAR-H ("Heavy"). The SCAR-L fires 5.56×45mm NATO, fed from STANAG (M16) magazines. The SCAR-H fires the more powerful 7.62×51mm NATO from proprietary 20-round magazines. Different length barrels are available for close quarters battle and for longer-range engagements.

The Mk 16 was intended to replace the M4A1, the Mk 18 CQBR and the Mk 12 SPR, before SOCOM decided to cancel the order for the Mk 16 Mod 0. The Mk 17 will replace the M14 and Mk 11 sniper rifles. However, the weapon will only supplement other weapons while issuing remains at the operator's decision.

The Mk 20 Mod 0 Sniper Support Rifle (SSR) is based on the SCAR-H. It includes a longer receiver, a beefed up barrel extension and barrel profile to reduce whip and improve accuracy, and an enhanced modular trigger that can be configured for single-stage or two-stage operation together with either a folding or a non-folding precision stock.

MP5s are really used now days.  Few floating around, most teams do not have any.  This the most I've seen in a very long time.  Bottom right are 3 ea MP5Ks also.

@Combat_Diver

CD,

Curious... Are you seeing more Mk17's or Mk20's going down range.

Obviously mission dictates but just wonder if one is actually more practical and if the benefits of the 20 seem are enough to chose it over the lighter 17

Teams have Mk17 assigned to them.  They draw the Mk20s out of SOCOM loan stock.

Anyone have a pic of a 17 w/ 16" barrel and the Surefire 762sv mounted?

I'm just curious how far back it overlaps the barrel - what it looks like on a 16" barrel.

Specifically looking for an example that doesn't have an extended rail.

A couple weeks ago I finally shot a friends 16 and 17. Spent the next couple days handing down a deal on one. I liked the 16 better but I have plenty of rifles in 556 so I decided to go with the 308. Then spent the last couple weeks hunting down parts to make it the way I want it. Only thing I might change out is the Larue mount. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Vortex razor on Larue mount
G trigger
Asr break for the can
A few different jets to play around with
Grip, 6.5” rail.

Here's mine my currently. Been playing with the sling and mounts. Not sure what I like best up front, the QD swivel or U loop? Loving the BFG padded sling and sleeve. Elcan 1.5x6 is next. Gotta pull the trigger on that soon.

Last range trip with the irons at 25m. Aquila 150 gr FMJ BT. Few clicks to get it right.

Few flyers at the top.

Man I love the OG grip stops.

How close does the MAWL come to the front sling loop on the right side? Did you have to trim it to fit?

Can't find one anywhere in stock.

EDIT: Looks like the offset mount is DD based on a post from CD.

What's the correct offset mount for the Aimpoint?

And what specific Aimpoint model? Micro T-2?

Seen here:

So, if you see a Mk20 with the Leupold Mk6 3-18x, are they still in the ADM mounts? Or does the ECOS-O Leupold / Aimpoint system have it's own mount (brand?)

The ECOS-O optics suite of which the SU-279A belongs includes a 34mm Leupold Mark 6 IMS mount with Right Hand cross bolts. I have never seen the 3-18x in a Delta mount.

It's FN's proprietary receiver extension that debuted alongside early SSR prototypes. They were discussed back on page 1 and presumed to be in limited circulation. Those links seem to have died, so have some more:
