I run a Sandman S on my 17 with the stock 16in barrel. She is a shooter. I can shoot sub moa with 168gr TAP. I also run a TA11EG ACOG for use as a run and gun battle rifle platform, not a DMR. I will also use it for hunting.

She is a little long with the Sandman S. Doable, but a little longer and heavier than I would like. The way I see it, I have 2 options. I can order the new Sandman K to use with the stock barrel, or I can get a CQC barrel and keep the S on there. The K would save a few inches, and 5oz from the muzzle.

I spoke with a gentleman at Dead Air, who loved the K can on the 17 with the stock barrel. I was close to ordering one, but Im undecided.

Also, pretty sure I cant swing the CQC barrel and K can, although that would probably be an awesome setup.

I have the Sandman S and K both on form 3's currently, curious to see how they both do on the stock barrel. Been getting the itch to SBR the 17 regardless, would shave a little weight down off it as I do plan to hunt with my also. Can't say this is much advice overall, the K would shave weight from the S but would also be a louder report especially if you go down in barrel length. I think it would be a sick setup though and worth the money

Sure the K will be louder, but 3 or 4 db I was told by Dead Air. I will have ears in anyway. I cant afford to loose anymore hearing!

I have a feeling the K on the CQC will be too too loud. The added volume on the S would be better. So lengthwise going the SBR route would only save me 1.5in or so from the K and stock barrel with loss in velocity....

Get the CQC barrel assembly.

I use a Sandman S on mine and love it. I’d like to try the K can but I have an L and don’t need another.

Get the CQC barrel and appropriate ammo, something with a lightweight bullet like the made for the SCAR SBR MK319 130gr ammo.

My advice would be to get the 13"  barrel assembly or have Jarod at PMM cut your current one down for a fraction of the cost. If funds allow later on then I would buy the shorter can to bring the OAL down even further.

13" 17s are bad ass.  Shot the crap out of one with a big SF can and then we switched it to a SiCo specwar 762.  Great gun.  It did shred a bolt carrier, no idea on round count though.

Another option would be to have your stock barrel chopped to 14" and suppressor mount pinned on. Only 1" longer than CQC barrel, no stamp, and cheaper than a new barrel.

I'll see if I can find the pic, bolt carrier had a failure that rendered the gun inoperable.  ETA Found.  @EHilderbrand

Well, that's certainly impressive. Interesting failure point.

Was a cause ever determined for this? I've been looking for a 17 sporadically and I have a specwar 762 I had planned on throwing on if I ever found one.

I'm pretty sure that XD in the background had something to do with this.
