You saw right. I'm building up a near-complete Ak5 parts kit on a donor FNC receiver. I have a friend who works for the FMV and was a huge help to me in my quest for the unicorn.

Here are some of the several parts he sent me. Several were sold, like the Ak-5D handguard, Generation 1 stock, and the B model tools, among other things:

The lower receiver internals, Ak-5 stock hinge block, dust cover assembly, and bayonet adapter are the parts missing from the picture. The only parts needed for a complete (US-legal) kit are the rear stock plate, the thicker Generation 2 handguard retainer, the stock locking plate, and a barrel:

The gas block in particular is interesting. It is a virgin Ak-5 gas block that has not yet had the handguard retaining pin installed. Hipes Consulting is making an Ak5-profile barrel for the rifle and drilling and installing the handguard retaining pin. These parts will be nitrocarburized for longevity:

So the question is: What's the progress on the build? Well, at one point it was off at Second Amendment Sports in Arizona:

...having some parts assembled, including the milling of the sling/stock locking plate channel in the lower receiver:

...and having the brass deflector installed:

...and being recoated for an even finish. Cerakote Sniper Green is the way to go. Big thanks to SAS and TBA Suppressors/Hi Caliber Mfg. for the paint job.

I was also sent an Aimpoint CS for the project. Pretty cool optic, but relatively heavy and bulky when compared with the Aimpoint Micro line:

It's definitely a post-op at this point. I'm just waiting on it to get back from the builder in all of it's mean, green, fighting machine glory:

Hope you enjoyed the read. I know I enjoyed the journey!

Very nice!  Does Second Amendment specialize in FNC's or something?  Been there plenty of times but they never advertised much along the lines of gunsmithing.

The FNC has always piqued my curiosity as an early AR derivative w/ other influences.  Nice gat, OP.
