Was speaking to a rep from FN and he said that these would be here by the end of the year. It will have a factory 1.5 power optic. Looks pretty cool!

He said that the optic is a Euro type and the optic will not fit a picatinny rail.

Is that a picture of the euro rifle? That's a pretty big scope for 1.5x power. (personally, I wouldn't mind the super-de-dooper electronic scope offered with the FN2000)

I'm truly glad FN offers these new innovative designs to us mere American Civilians, but WOW, that's ugly.

So anyone who buys it will be better prepared to fight off the upcoming covenant invasion.

Seriously, I have to think that Halo fanboys will be all over that.

Also the nomenclature that FN is going to be using when they launch the new rifle is that the rifle with the factory optic will be marketed simply as the FS2000 and the FS2000 with the rail will be the 'FS2000 tactical'.
Link Posted: 7/28/2007 11:26:35 AM EDT

I like the FS2000 tactical with the rail option. I'm not convinced that anyone would really need the 1.5x Optic that wont be pictanny railed.

I did read over at www.militarymorons.com that the FS2000 tactical was a little too bulky though.

I'm pretty happy with my EOTECH,and if the FS2000 factory optick is anything like the P90's you may be dissapointed.

Well if you can't remove that optic you better be happy with it.

That optic looks like it blows. 1.5x...? That's all the power?
Link Posted: 7/29/2007 7:32:42 AM EDT
[#14]
Nice! That's the FS2000 I would buy. The large shroud is just a shroud. The 1.5x optic is really a small tube optic, almost like the AUG's factory sight. There's another F2000 sight system that has an integrated grenade launcher computer (basically some LEDs that tell you where to aim for the 40mm to land).

The current FS2000 ("Tactical rail model") looks naked without the factory optic. As long as the 1.5x sight uses an etched reticle of some sort (and not a crappy fiber optic reflex sight), it will work fine for me.

This is the one they should have come out with

It was my understanding that there's still a pic rail where the fs sight attaches too. The difference, if i remember right, was only the attachment tab slots on the upper itself in which the fs sight "shroud" attaches. It should be removable and capable of mounting standard optics. The real question is whats the difference in price gonna be? I would certainly rather have an eotech and magnifyier on an fs than the factory 1.5x sight..............price will be the determining factor. Glad i have waited to buy one though, options are always a good thing

Well as strange as it is in the NFA world the F2000 standard with the optic is cheaper then the F2000 tactical with the rail, so I would expect the same to hold true with the civillian version. After all, the optic is already in mass production for all of the rifles FN sells to military and law enforcement units.

If my PS90 came with the USG sight, I wouldn't have bothered tinkering with the optics because a black etched reticle works nicely for CQB.

I would most likely keep the 1.5x Euro sight if it came on a black FS2000. That would be the most authentic civy-legal FS2000.

rdgr that!   I rather have infinite choices with free market competition option that you have with the rail then the FN optic. From what I have seen Fn should stay out of the optic business.

do you think they could've put any more plastic on that damn thing? one of my biggest complaints of that rifle is that there is too much plastic on it. it's too bulky. not as sleek as say, the AUG. FN could've done a much better job on that rifle. it's accurate and easy to shoot, jut too fucking big.

I have to wonder how that rifle would stand up to an amphibious sand bath. Probably can trap a bucket of sand inside all that plastic
Love the FiveSeven though!

The size doesn't bother me, but here is what I think would have made the FS2000/F2000 an AWESOME rifle and serious contender for more contracts:

1.  Last Round Bolt Hold Open.

2.  Bolt Release.

3.  Drop Free Mag Release.

4.  Vertical Foregrip or P90 Style front hole grip (sort of like the Magpul PDR)...the weapon is so short it needs a forward vertical grip of some sort I feel.

5.  Lighter Trigger Pull.

I think they could accomplish all the above and come out with a Gen II FS2000 that would sell even better than the current rifle.

It makes it look like a HK OICW! The F2000 was originally designed to have that shrouded optic. The FS2000 w/ the Picatinny rail looks incomplete without the shroud.

The FN SCAR doesn't really do much for me. It's essentially an evolutionary version of the AR15/M16 (which isn't a bad thing at all).

Agreed. The fn scar H is about the only weapon I'd go out and buy before handling it.......  Maybe even 2 or 3 of them  Might have to get a matching L too......

The SCAR has perhaps 2 featuers I'd change.  Everything else is spot-on.  No other rifle has had as much development & feedback poured into it as this machine.  By all accounts, its a near ideal combination of accuracy, reliability, & ergonomics in 1 package.  The MASADA is perhaps the only other arm that stands to give it some heat - & even it won't have the development resources that this thing has had poured into it.

AMEN brother thats the MO SHIZZLE FIZZLE. Even the same optic as the Scar H in the picture. THE Heavy is the only thing that I really really really will absolutely ream out the AMEX over.  Mags, Optics, Vertigrip, Light, Green Laser, and plenty of good 308 WIN.

The FS2000 could not have a bolt hold open because it depends on the closing of the bolt to drive the shell casing into the ejection port.  So if the bolt stayed open after the last shop it would not eject the case of the last shot fired.

The Europeans frown upon last round bold hold open mechanisms and drop-free mags. The reason the SCAR-L/H is well received in the US is because the US division of FN is developing the rifle in conjunction with the US military. The F2000 and P90 were genuine Belgian inventions.

Drop free mags wouldn't be of any use on the FS. The way you change mags, it doesn't add any time or procedure to grab the mag vs letting it fall to the ground, as your support arm still needs to come up under your armpit to release the mag with your thumb.

I would like to see a last round hold open though.
