Changing my standard 20 inch length A1 rifle barrel to a 14.5 inch barrel & upper. Aesthetically I am going to keep the standard A1 rifle buttstock. Do I have to change out the standard buffer or just leave it as is?

Leave everything in place.. rifle RE requires a rifle buffer and spring.

Generally, it will work fine as long as you keep the rifle receiver extension, rifle buffer and rifle spring.

Yes, just mounting the shorter upper assembly and leaving the A1 rifle buttstock in place...

If you
want
to use a carbine buffer and spring, you can make a spacer to but at the bottom of the receiver extension.

For the record, I left the A1 stock, buffer, & spring in place and my rifle functions perfectly!
