I've had this gun for a while.  I liked it so much as a host gun I registered it on a form 1.  I load a .44 mag subsonic load with plated 240gr bullets.  It's a hoot to shoot.

I turned the takedown pin down just enough that it can be removed with finger pressure if the action is open but it won't just fall out.  So if I want it to be a compact takedown gun for a pack I just leave the handguard off.  The barrel won't get hot enough for that to matter.  I shortened the stock until I can fins a youth stock.  I think they make one.

Somehow I lost one of the handguard/forend screws so I need to order one.

Neat rifle!   I had a non-SBR Handi Rifle chambered in
357 Magnum a few years back.   It was stupid quiet with hand loaded .38 Specials using 158 grain bullets and Titegroup powder.

Sadly the chamber and barrel got badly pitted due to some suspected corrosive primers.    It was so bad the fired cases were impossible to remove from the chamber with your fingers.   The brass was embedding into the pitted chamber and you had to remove them with pliers.

Ended up selling it to a guy who needed the lower for some of his other Handi Rifle uppers.

I miss that little rig.

I’ve thought about SBRing a Handi-rifle, but they are already nice and compact. I may still do it, but it’s a low priority. Your post has me thinking about it again

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of subsonic .44 Magnum.  Why not just use another caliber that is already subsonic with a similar bullet weight?

What caliber are you using that tosses 305gr HPs right at 1,000 fps with ~8gr of powder? The .44 is perfect for this application, .45 LC would work too, but you're still loading to emulate that performance.

I dig the SBR'd CVA, I run a 77/44 suppressed, but would love to add a shorty break action to the mix.

I already load full power .44 magnum for my revolver.  I have a crapload of hp38 and it works great for subsonic loads.  I already had the AAC Tirant .45.  It just made sense.  I'm getting a freebie octane 45 from when that form 4 is approved.   I may test magnum loads through the octane.  It'll be my 3rd .45 can.  If I break it I break it.

CVA single actions make the absolute slickest suppressor hosts.

I have one in .300 BO.

Does a 305gr HP expand at that velocity?

I haven't killed anything with that load, but it's supposed to be cast on the softer side for expansion, and it pretty obviously expanded on the big laundry detergent jug I shot at 100 yds.

I can't speak to his particular bullet, but a 300 gr. XTP does expand at that velocity, others as well in .430"
.
