1) I'm new to suppressors and was researching the 30 cal Phantom. I just discovered that the 7.62 cal suppressor only also fits a 5.56 flash hider. How does this work? Aren't the threads on 5.56 barrels smaller in diameter than 7.62 barrels?
2) Could I do something similar using a 5.56 AAC Blackout?
3) What suppressors are compatable with 18T and 51T Blackouts? Would the Phantom supressor fit on one of the Blackouts?
Basically, I want one suppressor that I could use on multiple rifles and just am partial to the Blackout FH over the Phantom FH. Thanks for any help.
I don't know anything detailed about the Blackout FH
If the only reason you're going with AAC over YHM is the appearance of the flashider, you are gonna pay a lot for it... (assuming you end up buying AAC cans) Which is totally fine, it's your kit. The 556 and 762 flashiders have all the same O.D. dimensions save one. The 762 flashider is longer, thus prohibiting the 556 can from being able to reach back to the threads and be mounted. The flashiders thread onto the barrel permanently with a variety of thread sizes/pitches for all the different rifles, just look at YHM's website and you'll see there's quite a variety. On the outside to the flashider are the QD threads, those are ACME. ACME is a standard for a certain type of threads just like you also have standard (course or fine), metric, hose (NHT for firefighting), and pipe (NPT) threads. I can't remember what the acronym stands for... You'd find ACME threads on the lead screw on a lathe or maybe some bench vices.
here is ACME thread data (sorry, couldn't format it very well):
