I'm looking for an AR case, or a case that will fit an AR (but made for something else) that does not look like it would contain a rifle.

Specifically, I want a case that will hold a broken down 16" (buttstock and lower, upper before 1" FS) AR.  Leather, Aluminum, canvas, it doesn't really matter.  As long as it looks like a regular bag or briefcase that everyday people might be carrying.

The overal length of my 16" M4 with Flash Suppressor is about 25", and the lower is shorter than that.

Any ideas?

Someone posted directions for a Craftsman 26" tool box that will hold a carbine broken down.

Guitar case.  Auto Ordnance makes a "violin case" with a padded interior for a Thompson.  It could easily be used for an AR/M16.

Check it out...

While a bit pricey, a Zero Halliburton case would certainly work.  Photographers use them all the time.  www.zerohalliburton.com/

Brou:

Try a dive bag.  They are usually rather long and have handy end pouches as well.  Most are heavy duty too.  I saw a nice one for $35.00 last weekend on sale.

On a side note, I have never met a violin or viola player in my life.  Also, isn't an instrument case more suspect if it is out of context?  I trust you wish to be inconspicuous vs. drawing curious eyes, right?

Try a tennis bag for 6 racquets.  Split and padded plus pouches in and out.  Go for about $30.00.  By split, I mean the inside has two compartments the entire length.

I've tried it - it can be done if you don't try to stuff too much in there...
