The Russians have kept up with the West concerning military rifles.  What have the Chinese been doing to arm their military.  Are they still quantity over quality?

To their elite troops they are issueing their new type 49 bullpup. It's chambered in some crazy native caliber, the export version is 5.56mm.

The rest make do with AK's.

I saw one of their commie parades on tv a while back.
It looked like they were carrying stainless steel SKSs.
Maybe that's just their parade weapon.

Well, actually, they still employ avery wide array of types of weapons.  Before the new bullpup rifle, the primary isue weapon was (and still probably is) the type 68.  This is an indigenously designed and produced AK/SKS variant with an adjustable gas regulator and atached bayonet.

They also produce and use locally made variants of the AK 47/74 series, and the SKs rifle, both as the Type 56 rifle and carbine, respectively.

I do not know at this time whether the Type 68 has been adapted to the 5.45x39 round or not.
