Neither one are all that durable although parkerizing is more durable than bluing. Parkerizing is a good surface for absorption of lubricants. Of course, most US military firearms are parked, bluing is considered "prettier," it's on most civilian firearms, and its certainly shinier.
Some of the new high-tech finishes such as Black-T are more durable than either of them. |

Both metal finishes essentially create a layer of controlled corrosion on the surface of the metal, thus "sealing" it and preventing further uncontrolled corrosion.
Both finishes are accomplished with the use of some rather nasty chemicals. As a rule, modern US military weapons are parkerized. However, some maintain that the British baked enamel finish is more durable than parkerizing. |
