Do these things actually work?  

I know the SSR-85 AK47 rifles use them.  

My new FAL could use one if it would work w/out hurting the rifle in any way. I guess I'm a sissy.

IMHO they're the same as Shok-Buffs for your 45acp. I have one on my AK and if you'll remove yours shoot 50 rounds and re-install it you'll find that they cut down on the felt jolt from bolt banging against the receiver.

I say YES, they do what their designed to do.
