It's my yearly HD thread question.  Since we have crap ton of cloners on here, I'm wondering if any of you use your Clone AR for HD, or any AR for that matter.  Or what is your Home Defense weapon set up?

Right now mine is my 442 right next to my head, with an AR pretty darned close and my M9 is across the room in a dresser (we rearranged our bedroom and we are painting a small little dresser for my side of the bed.  But for now I have TV tray and I set my carry revolver on it every night before bed).

For daytime it's my 442 since I'm carrying it, unless I have time to grab the AR.

Oh yeah, right now the AR I'm using is run of the mill RRA M4 type with CAR handguards and a rail bolted to it.  With an Inforce APL on it.

Lets see how you all are doing it these days........

I don't have a specific "home defense" gun. Usually my carry pistol is on the bench though. But, if I had to pick one out of the safe, currently it would be the 14.5 block1.

IF I had my 10.3 barrel and my sbr lower, it would definitely be that.

Also have a 9mm ar pistol, that would be nice if it was more reliable.

Up and about my 340 M&P is on the end table in the living room and at bed time the Glock 35 with TLR-1 is loaded with 22 rounds of .40 GDHP

Need to buy some suppressors for the AR it will be a 10.3" .223 Wylde Pistol or a .300 BLK

1911.
There is no room in my house that requires a long gun.

A 1911 will do enough damage to my hearing.

i get the not requiring a long gun because of distance but id still rather have a sig mpx or something, easier to get shots on target if youre groggy from sleep/shaking/etc.

but you are right, a 1911 will do the job.

I just re configured my 870 back as my primary.... shoulder injury several years ago removed it from the duty, but after removing the extended mag tube it is back.. 21" 870 12ga, vent rib and screw in chokes... Choate fore end and side saddle... added studs for sling and installed sling... attached light to barrel to clean up the fore end

No rifle at all most of the year. But the few times that i have when the elections leading up and immediately afterwards were getting sporty, was my 10.3 5.56 SBR with a DD Omega quad, T1, and Surefire X300U.

Nightstand is a P320 full size 45 ACP with Streamlight TRL 1HL year round.

Carbine, 16" barrel, light, SUIT.  Built it a few years ago and it's in the bedroom in the corner unless I take it to the range.  I have more AR15's, but this is the one that I'd go to first.

I have an 11" 223 upper with irons and a light, and a 300 BO 9" upper with dot and light. I have an SBR lower and a pistol lower. so, it's a combination of those parts depending on what else is shaking.

I really need to put the folder on the pistol lower and make that a dedicated truck gun and then get a can. Oh the things I would do with money...

I have a Roland Special on my night stand if there's an odd noise in the night and I need to quietly inspect. If it's pretty evident that something is amiss, I'll grab my Block 1.5 with Eotech. I'd be loathe to use my MK18 due to sound, but I haven't pulled the trigger on a suppressor yet.

a number of years ago I won a Bushmaster Carbon-15 in a raffle.  My daughter is shown holding it the morning after I won it.
I've since removed whatever optic it came with and put an Aimpoint on it and added a light and sling and it is the bedside AR.

I keep a 3 D cell LED Maglite and Glockn30s and 2 extra magazines loaded up with 230gr standard pressure Federal HST on my night stand. But if I have time my AR carbine with surefire loaded up with TBBC loads are it. Ever try to spin a combination lock at 3am when your wife wakes you up because she heard mena voices on the carport? Isn't the easiest thing in the world to do from a dead sleep.

SBRed CQBR clone + Silencerco omega   .

Common sense is kicking in and I see that I don't need to put ,4k worth of rifle at risk when a $500 PSA AR pistol can get the job done just as well.

Right before I came into this thread I was making comments in another thread about noise and the risks of shooting indoors with my M4gery (that thing is LOUD).  And I think I convinced myself to go back to my XD45 for now.  I need a 300 BO and a can.  Or a 9mm carbine and a can......  Too broke for all that so I may just stick with a subsonic handgun round.....

I do like the idea of a carbine for accuracy sake, but you do give up a little mobility and added weight with it.  Compared to a handgun.

Here are some more thoughts by someone else and I agree.

I have a M4 sopmod block 2 clone but I don’t use it for HD. I would take it if I could only take one rifle though.

HD guns are a MCX and either a g17 or VP9.

Good light, sling, and optic is all you really need.  A can is just a nice addition.  Not that hard or expensive to make a stock rifle “duty” ready.

what's stock? oh you mean the butt stock gotcha

man I can't remember the last time I've had a factory built rifle. lol

but yes I agree simple is the way to go. maybe not full on KISS (which I also like) I eventually want to get a ta44 or 45 acog for my SBR but man are they spendy. my go-to has evolved many times and I keep seeming to cut the fat and go simpler. just like my recent light selection. I had a tlr-1hl prior which wasn't too bad honestly then tried a hlx with it ooh and ahh 1000 lumens but was just to cumbersome and heavy. I tried a plain 1L which was really compact but decided on the 1L-1aa for its utility. I can shove damn near any battery into it and it will work. I've tried aa, aaa, and aaaa's and all work. 9V batteries have 6 aaaa batteries in them so I can almost ensure I have white light no matter what comes my way. I keep a fresh cr123 in it though with a few more in the buttstock.

Experience has shown me that when the chips are down, an AR type firearm will fail.

Add to that the fact that in an urban area most centerfire rifle rounds will pass through not only my walls but those of my neighbor as well.  Therefore, my choice for a long gun would be a shotgun.  Specifically a semi auto in 20 ga.

If I were forced to select one of my rifles it would be the Scout Squad.  The older M14/M1A design is more reliable, and since I'm saying to heck with worries about over penetration, the 7.62 is a far superior round than the 5.56 or even the much touted .300 Blackout.

There are facts to prove just about everything you said to be wrong. You need to do some more research. I mean that in the most friendly non-general discussion type of way.

Apparently 9mm, 45ACP and 00 buck has as much...if not more...penetration power than 5.56/223 after hitting modern home construction barriers.
