No M1A's.
18" to 20" long barrel
for general use, not for target shooting
MOA rifle would be okay though

LMT MWS is pretty nice. SR-25 if you have extra deep pockets.

I stand corrected.

SR-25 is the "more better" answer.

SCAR 17
KAC SR-25
DSA FAL Para
IMI Galil pre-ban
IWI Galil new version
PTR HK-91 clone

I guess it depends how much you want to spend, all are good rifles though.

I would start with Armalite and probably just buy one their complete rifles. Modify it after you’ve shot it and figured out what does and doesn’t work for you.

SCAR 17 is going to be best option if you can afford.  Followed by AR10 SR25 pattern rifle.  FAL is a great option if you are ok with a 2-4MOA rifle.

16" is best option in all honesty.  I threw around the 18 vs 20 and arrived at the 16" gives you everything you could need.  Unless you are a competition shooter that needs every last bit of speed out of a round and want to run a 26" barrel the best option is go short as you can.  Moving in and out of a vehicle is easier, in out or around a blind is easier, the rifle is lighter and less front heavy making it easier to take off hand shots, and the speed difference between the barrel lengths is not significant enough that you are gaining or losing much of anything.  I can shoot my SCAR out to 800m with ease the key is knowing your dope on your rifle.  If you have a 13" or a 22" if you know your dope you can make hits easily with either barrel length.

Agreed, but for general use not bench shooting I'll take a lightweight accurate barrel any day!!

The tOBR is not that bad in a 16” but the tAR is a bit lighter and shooting off hand every bit helps.

ACC is a 16-incher though.

If we're throwing in 16-inchers, Colt 901. Monolithic upper, even lighter than the SR-25, lower is parts compatible with a lot of M4 accessories, eats all ammo without complaint, similar accuracy for 1/3 the price, and can use your 5.56 AR uppers and mags.

LMT LM8.

Same as the MWS but without the railage at 3, 6, or 9 o'clock. Essential a "slickside" variant. But LMT makes rail 'pieces' for the LM8, in various lengths, so you can add whatever items you need for your mission or intended use, ...  e.g., bipod, light, foregrip, etc.

I have an Aero Precision M5 builder's kit with a Mega 18" barrel, I shot a 2.3" 10 shot string at 250 yards semi "rapid" fire, I did allow the reticle to fall back onto dead center of the target. I used PPU 308 168gr from Aim. I'm not a great shot, hell the U.S. Army taught me to shoot. Build a rifle with a good barrel, and I'm sure you'd be pleased with the results, I am because that's under 1 MOA.

BTW, I used a cheap Caldwell bag, no bipod.

This is what I would suggest, or if 16inch would work then a MiniG from Shuff's.
