I been offered this Remington 700   (ser. no. 6639xxx)  in 30-06 for $450. It has a a Leupold 4X scope monuted on Weaver rings. Barrel looks perfect, stock is in great condition, just a little wear on the front sight blueing from storage, blueing everywhere else is perfect. Kept in great condition by a Marine. He lives in the city and will never use it again.

Seems like a good price, I have been needed a larger caliber hunting rifle, (currently using a Win 30-30), that can reach out a little farther. Anything else I should be looking at in this price range?

Any comments or suggestions?

Very nice rifle BUT just a heads up.  That rifle is going to hurt to shoot.

Yeah that's what my neighbor told me also. I'll get use to it though, I use to shoot my dads 338 mag with 250gr  bullets , now that hurt!

your top pic makes the rifle look as if its been refinished.  has it?  if so, that takes alot off in my book.

No refinishing, just the picture. Finish is like new, just a couple shallow grooves in the varnish, not even into the wood or enough to flake the varnish.

The rifle alone goes for that around here. The scope is a definite plus.

That's a no-brainer.  It would already be in my collection.

My father gave me the same riflle a few years ago.  Even with a recoil pad it kicks hard.

That Rifle is worth every penny of $450.
You could always make the guy an offer.... Who knows how much less he may take

I'd say that's a fine hunting rifle.  I would probably want a bit more magnification than 4X, but that's just me.  A 3-9X40 would be really sweet.  I'd say in it's current setup it's worth it.  You could always sell the scope and rings if you find you need more magnification.  MJD

Thank for the comments.

I'm going to shoot it tommorow and see what type of groups it will place.

I'll post some results.

ETA: toomuch rain and wind to get any accurate results for a first time shoot. Maybe next weekend.
