Pressures of the 5.56mm were more than what the Israeli's wanted to deal with for an issue rifle over an extended service life.
They bought the first receivers from Valmet, and they were milled M62 receivers. They stuck with them 'cause they worked. The Russians, Finns, Poles, Chinese, East Germans, Bulgarians, and Indians have or had stamped 5.56mm AK's, but only the Poles and Indians actually issue them domestically, the rest were for export. |

You mean the Galil receiver isn't made from stamped sheet? No wonder it's so heavy and they're getting ARs cheaper. That explains a lot. Funny that key fact isn't often mentioned in the stuff I read.
