Is there a accurate method to check this or does a little bit off make a dif in using one of the ballistic programs?

Measure from the top of the interior of the bore to the top of the front sight. Add half the bore diameter.
OR Measure from the top of the barrel to the top of the front sight. Then add half the thickness of the barrel (at that point). You now have the front sight height. -Troy |

I was thinking about scopes. My 55 yr farsighted eyes don't do opens very good. Thanks a lot.

I just use a rough measurement. Run a ballistics program using both the high and low extreme of what your guesses might be and you will probably find very very little difference in your final numbers.
Besides ballistics programs only get you close, fine tune at the range. |

the ballistics progs I have downloaded have an entry for this data, and you have received good advice on how to measure same.
In general, it is considered a Very Good Thing to arrange things so that the centerline of the scope is as close as possible to the centerline of the bore. |
