That Remcote crap is like a sponge. I had a regular 870 duck gun that needed a little TLC. I wet sanded it with 400 grit paper then sprayed it with stove paint from Rustoleum. Lasted for years and a nice flat black finish.

Buy a can of Remoil and soak'er down. The finsh absorbes the oil. It really helps.

I steel wooled the hell out of an old Remington and then used flat black automotive engine block paint on it, then tiger striped it with OD green. First time I took it hunting a guy bought it off me for twice what I had in it, it did look good though.

Buy Rustoleum spray and make yourself a nice camo pattern shotgun.

if yer just gonna spray paint it then dont bother with the steel wool, unless its for the rust spots. just wipe down the gun with acetone and spray over it.
if you go with the brownells teflon/moly or alumahyde you will get this:   or OD green

THIS is the guy you want to talk to. He did my Garand, and it came out perfectly. Just break down the gun yourself. His $125 price is for work that doesn't need breaking down. You won't be sorry. Mick... Why would you want to moly a chrome bolt? Send it to Robar, and have them NP3 it. It's tougher than moly, and has the sme self-lubricating properties. |

Thanks. I should have looked myself before asking.
I just don't like the look of a chrome bolt on a gun that I hunt deer and turkey with. |
