The above is in agreement with at least one after-action report from the Marines in Iraq. In no way am I a basher of the 5.56mm round but I do believe the continual deployment of shorter and shorter barreled weapons is taking the "V" component out of what is an SCVH (Small Caliber High Velocity) weapon. The original AR-15 design was for a 20" barrel. However, by 1963 and the AR-18/AR-180 ArmaLite had figured out that 3150fps could be had from an 18.25", 1:12 twist barrel using 55grn bullets. Without high velocity you're simply left with a .22 and that's not gonna knock down crap at any distance.
As you read through subject article you'll see that even this writer understands this is a "high velocity" weapon. And that alone is pretty amazing !!
