Winchester Model 70?

Just looking at some prices and ran accross the Winchester Model 70 Steath in 308. Price seems to be just a little cheaper than a Rem 700 vs, which seems like a comparable model. Just wanting to gather some info on Winchester in comparison to a Rem. 700. Thanks

In Sept. I bought a new Mdl. 70 Coyote in 270WSM as my new Elk rifle. For the last several years I have bought 4 or 5 new rifles per year. Now, everthing usually needs some work right out of the box, Triggers tuned, bedding, freefloating, etc. So I expect to spend another $100.00 to $200.00 to get them to shoot. Also, usually some reloaing to get good accuracy. I like for things to shoot 1/2 inch or better at 100 yards. Imagine my surprise when my box stock Coyote with a factory 150 grain power points shot into .340, not once but 5 three shot groups spread over a two week period, in varying weather conditions. BUY your Stealth, I've heard great things about them locally.

The model 70 is a very good choice.They shoot very well right out of the box. Go for it

Are they more accurate than a remington?

Also considering a HOWA rifle.....is the Winchester worht the extra 50 bucks?

Ask some of the guys on snipercountry what they think about the Stealth. It's one hell of a rifle. Really gives the PSS/VS a serious run for the money. Put it this way, there's a reason they're so hard to find.

yeah, they actually weigh 1.5 more pounds than the rem.
they say they weigh in at 10.5 pounds

I have a post 64 model 70XTR in 30-06,that will shoot 1",3 shot groups @ 100yds,sitting on a bull bag,but its tricked out,and I have a custom load for it that I have worked up. I would go with the Winchester,but hey, its my opinion.
If you had to pack an M60 all day,the weight of the model 70 wouldn't matter.

I was actually thinking the extra weight would be a good thing as far as accuracy is concerned. or is that really not a big issue.

How does Winchester's synthetic stock compare to remingtons?

The extra weight will help on recoil. I don't know too much about the S.S.model's only that they are alot lighter. if you want to go with a S.S.I would get one that has the aluminum reinforcement on the inside,that your barreled action sets in.They also can be glass bedded,Mine is a nice walnut,I will stay with it.

Is there a good place to buy new rifles online. i saw a couple sites like thegunsouce.com and eastcountygun.com...........they say you just buy them and they will ship them to a FFL dealer of your choice.

Try Gunbroker.com,or Guns America,there always seems to be more guns,than I have $$$$ to buy them with. Most will ship to a dealer of your choice,most will do transfer from $10 to $30.

I own a pre-64 mauser actioned Mdl 70 Alaskan in .300Win Mag (NRA Exc condition). I got it from my dad as he was the original owner. I love that thing. I'd go with the Mdl 70 mostly because since they brought back the classic mauser bolt, it has a positive extraction claw that takes one fly out of the ointment.

From what I understand, the Rem 700s have been having some problems with quality lately. If I'm wrong someone please correct me. The Rem700 is also a great rifle and can be purchased ready to go with no need for mods. It's a preference thing mostly. Caliber has a lot to do with it. I just got to have the clawed extractor fellas.

That Stealth looks sweat as hell, I've found my next bolt-action.

I'm kinda new to the optics part of rifles. Do most bases fit all rifles pretty universally? Then you just buy the rings to match the base?

Does the Stealth gave an H-S Precision stock with an aluminum bedding bar?? The 700 PSS/VS does.
Usually bases fit one style of receiver only. The rings are more universal.
