Hello!

Does anyone know what different types of pistols are available that fire the .410 ga?  I'd like to get a good snake pistol.

Any handgun which is not registered as a short rifle or an AOW is going to have a rifled barrel which will spin the shot cup. Doing this will spread the pattern really really fast. So much so that in my opinion they are useless.

I would reccomend a sawed off shotgun in pistol configuration or AOW.

i think a guy can have a smooth bore 45 lc if he desires.

I have a Thompson Contender with an 8 inch barrel.

Its fires 410 guage or 45 long colt, great piece to handle snakes, squirrels, cats ect.

Handguns must have rifled bores or they would need to be registered as AOW under the regulations of NFA.


  ANY OTHER WEAPONS

   An AOW is:
   "...any weapon or device capable of being concealed  on the
   person from which a shot can be discharged through the
   energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a smooth
   bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell,
   weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12" or
   more, less than 18" in length, from which only a single
   discharge can be made  from either barrel without manual
   reloading, and shall include any weapon which may be readily
   restored to fire.   Such term shall not include a pistol or
   revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons
   designed, made or intended to be fired from the shoulder and
   not capable of firing fixed ammunition." 26 U.S.C. sec.
   5845(e).

 

Rexio of Mexico makes a single shot .410/.45 Colt. Comes in 6 or 10 inch barrel. Looks handy but I've never handled one. About 1/3 the price of a T/C Contender in .410. Anyone ever handled one?

i stand corrected. so all those smooth bore 45 lc/410 things in FAC are AOWs?
