There is a guy by the name of David Buehn that advertises in the Shotgun News pretty regularly.

He usually has a very good selection of M1911/M1911A1's in very good shape for some serious collector type $$$$.

Warning: He has collector type prices and I have NO idea as to his reputation.

I'm not so much looking for a rare (and expensive) variant, or an early 1911, but more looking for a 1930s to 1940s US Army model that's shootable and looks nice.

WARNING! Before you or any body else makes a purchase from David Buehn contact me. Or just ask around some collectors circles and you will bump into others who will have the same story that I do. OUCH it hurt! He is so crooked they will have to screw him into the ground when he dies.

Don't be discouraged by sticker shock. There are still bargains on shooter grade G.I. pistols if you look hard enough.

I saw 2 at a gunshow yesterday. A vendor was asking $1099 for the 1 and $1199 for the other. They were a little dinged but in fairly good shape. The 1st one was "re-conditoned" but it was not re-blued.

Any copy of Gun List or Shotgun News should have more than enough ads to keep you going. I would be wary of DB.

Check out the classified section. I just saw a couple of listings for WWI era 1911s in the $1000-1500 range. Lots of good info otherwise.

Well, you can find a 1943 Union Switch & Signal M1911A1 in my gun vault. Unfortunately, it's not for sale and likely never will be.

For $700, it's some of the best money I ever spent:

There is a dealer by me that I usually buy from. He has a fairly large collection of vintage 1911's.
He is an honest dealer. Does it because he loves it. He already had plenty of money when he started.
