I don't know a whole lot about AKs but something tells me that isn't safe.

Armed_Scientist: Dude, this is perfectly safe. You dont need a dust cover to fire AK's. Just as the name implies, it keeps dust out of the action...not that it needs to. I do this all the time with my Galil, which for all practical purposes is an AK.

perfectly safe. only a sheet metal cover has been removed. other than gases and particulates being expelled in an uncontrolled pattern (and just like the carry handle on an ar, the ak normally outgasses thru the rec. cover buttonhole at the rear, anyway) no real danger is presented.

one fellow on assaultweb said he could detect the hammer retarder/anti-bolt bounce device delaying the hammer release!
