I have the newest version REAP-IR in 35mm on a Bobro mount. Previously I have only fired it on a semi auto 22 and a bolt 17 HMR.  Tonight I put it on a 17 HMR Alexander Arms AR style rifle and when firing it the screen flashed white lines in part of the image under recoil.  Thinking maybe something about the blow back operation of the 17 HMR semi auto the scope didn't like, I put it on a 16 inch standard 5.56 AR carbine.   Same issue, except the lines came and went much faster.

Is this a normal operation of the scope or is some sensor or connection inside of it going bad?  Scope is only a couple months old.

I see that with my Nox and my IR hunter too. Don't really know what that's all about.

You have their latest release Reap? The type 3?

Correct the type 3. Also have a 24mm type 3, I will try that one out tonight and compare. The 24mm drains batteries within a day when shut off. Been meaning to call Trijicon.

I have a type 3 24mm and it does not do what you described.  5.56 out of a 14.5" barrel.

The battery drainage thing is normal, it even warns you about it in the owner's manual.

How's the image quality compared to previous models? Any different?

I haven't tried the older models but image quality of the 35mm is significantly better than the 24mm.

I put the 24mm one on an AR today and let the bolt fly home. White lines as well.  Called Trijicon and they said that's not normal at all and are sending an RMA. 8-10 weeks quoted repair time so I'll be sending them back one at a time. Ugh.

This is right as a shot is being fired at a coyote. Is this what you're seeing? And do the white lines stay or go away after any sort of recoil?

I see some quick lines during recoil from my AGM ts25.

So I went on YouTube and looked at videos from a bunch of different thermals and it seems quite a few exhibit some kind of image noise (I’ll call it for lack of a better term) under recoil.

Pretty much like that except the lines mine are thinner, maybe 1-2 pixels in width across the screen.   Trijicon said not normal so hopefully its not.

I mounted up a Burris BTS 35 thermal and it does not exhibit this problem.

All my REAPs have done that.

So 7-10k gets you funky lines when you fire the gun in your thermal. What do you have to spend to get something that doesn’t do that?

A pulsar Thermion. Rated for 375 H&H recoil.
You might have to do a pixel repair once or twice after a lot of .308 and up semi auto action, but most will just go on ticking with boring reliability.
Most scopes are only rated for .308 recoil.
.243 Recoil

These "lines," how long do they hang around?

Don't worry too much about it. Even my PAS-13 does this if you smack it hard enough or let the bolt fly.

Although his answer might be the same as yours, I was hoping to hear from the OP.  I'm trying to understand what OP's condition is.

I appreciate the info. I’ll check it out.

I'm going to make a completely unfounded wild-ass guess and suggest this may be related to the nature of the display, and not some sort of wiring or connection shennanigan.   But that doesn't really fit Trijicon's response.
