From what I know a permanent change may require notification to NFA branch.

BigWaylon is correct so far as I understand.  I've never been shy about moving uppers around particularly since i live on a state line and shoot in the other state mostly.  uppers get moved to pistol lowers pretty often.

When you make an SBR, that’s a one-time act…and thus can only be a single caliber and length. But how you configure it after that moment in time makes no difference. Swap uppers to your heart’s content. And there’s no requirement for you to have to be able to return it to those original specs, regardless of what you may read online or here at a gun show/shop.

Appreciate this post, I was under the impression that if you switched uppers to a different caliber or length at any time, you'd need to notify the ATF.

Really would be nice to have a .300 upper with subs to swap around on the the 5.56 SBR I'm waiting on.
