Just saw this on Atlantic Firearms…

https://atlanticfirearms.com/mosin-nagant-m91-30-rifle-762-x-54r-c-r-eligible#

I know we’re in inflationary times and prices for C&R rifles are up all around, but $425, really!?

slightly out paced inflation.

Come on, you didn't really believe all that talk years ago from people here swearing they would never be worth more than $59.

Seriously though, they have been in the $400 range for over a year now. One of the reasons I sold off all my Russian Mosins early this year, keeping only my Finnish Mosins.

Winning!!

I've only got Finns as well, though a mate has a M91/30 with PU scope for sale which he's owned for a few decades now....so that may be heading my way in due course.
He's done a couple of things to the stock (an extra hole or two so he could add a Harris bipod ) but the plan is to drop it into a donor Finn. 91/30 stock anyway

Cheapest you'll find a M-N on this island is around 1.5 times that amount

I have my m39 Finn SAKO, my 1932 made 91/30 Octagon receiver, and my Hungarian made one.

I'm just pretty shocked and surprised on the prices now....

Yeah, prices have gone up on all milsurps but people seem to be really shocked by how much the lowly Mosin has appreciated. At the moment $300 is a good deal on a refurb 91/30 and if you can grab an M44 for $400 that would be considered a good deal. M38's are pushing up around $500. I just picked up a real nice 1947 dated M44 for $450. Also bought three spam cans of Russian and Bulgarian 54R for 200 a piece.

There are still deals to be had if you pay attention. I've snagged a couple of Finn M91/30 captured rifles for the going price of a regular Russian refurb and I saw a Finn M91 sell for $400 but it was too far of a drive for me to want to get it.

Here's a little secret when it comes to Soviet era Mosin's, they were always 350-400 dollar rifles but were seriously under priced for years due to the vast numbers imported from former Soviet storage sites in a rather short time frame. The Ukrainian and later Russian exporters had zero experience with the western military surplus market at the time(mid 1990''s through 2005 or so) and were happy to get basic scrap value for what they saw as useless, obsolete firearms. During that period C.A.I. was paying about 15$ per Mosin and then selling them for 89$ so even at that low price they made a very healthy profit. Those of us collecting at the time always knew the prices would go up once the Ukrainian and Russian sellers figured out how in demand these rifles were and with the help of the internet that started happening about 12 years ago and is very unlikely to change now due to recent import restrictions and lower supply available overall.

I'm SORELY tempted to dump some.

The prices they're demanding are attractive.

Yeah, I'd be keeping the Finns, too.

I sold a couple of mine last year. Nice condition all number matching 1945 M44 sold fast local for $500.
I had a real beater M44 than I cut stock a lot then attached a recoil pad and a brake so my then preteen son could shoot it. I think I got $250 for that POS and sold a crate of ammo for twice what I paid for it.

At the Tulsa show I brought in a Type 53 Mosin.  It was in Fair condition and one of the sling slot was broken off in the front.

Sold it for $300 to a dealer in the first hour.

The market is bearing it.

I started with a $50 M1891/30, then added a $175 mint VKT M39, an original M1891/30 PU sniper that was spendy at $600, a minty arsenal refinished M44 that was another $75 and as prices started to climb, I snatched up an excellent M38 carbine for $125.  I’m always curious how much they have appreciated in value these days.
I shook my head back in those days when bubba and his Dremel would hack away on these rifles because they were “cheap garbage rods that will be around forever and never hold any value anyways.”  How many Enfields, Springfields, Mausers and Krags to name a few sold dirt cheap back in their day and what do the prices command for an unmolested sample these days?

Back when American Guns was butchering an intact, original, Krag compared the value of the gun they started with to the gun the ended up with on Gunbroker.

They took a $1,500 survivor and made a $500 sporter.

The real crime was that sporterized Krags abound.  If you want one, you can just buy one with hardly any effort.

But the US Army dumped their Krags for $3 each and for a long time they were absolutely everywhere.  Somewhere I have an old magazine with an ad for a correspondence school of gunsmithing that brags that it includes a Krag rifle for you to practice your skills on as the course progresses.

Heck, I remember when you practically couldn't give away a USGI M1911A1.  $250 was an excellent price to get selling one.  It wasn't even all that long ago, Clinton was president.  Now look at them!

He's got that backwards, unless he's referring to M91s or other more uncommon longer Mosin-Nagants.

I HAVE seen them listed at ~$700-ish, but I see those rifles over and over again. I keep joking that I need to under cut them by $100 and make a mint. Of course, I don't think they'll sell very fast at ~$600, either.

My only 91/30 I got from Aim for $99. My son and I made a project out of refinishing the stock when he was young so I would never sell it.

I bought about 7 of them years ago when I had my C&R never paying more than $100 each even bought a box of 5 for $400 delivered to my house.
Sold 5 of them in the last year, none for less than $500 each. Had a nice octagon receiver that sold on Gunbroker for $950.
The last 2 I’m keeping.

I wish CZ 52’s would fetch the same prices.

What price should I ask for this one?
All #'s match and not forced, no import marks.

$250 will sell quickly
$300 will sell eventually
$350 will sit for a while until you just catch someone or inflation catches up.

This, 1943 Izhevsk M91/30's are probably the most common of any Mosin unless it is an ex-sniper; even then that isn't uncommon by any means.

Milsurps never go down in value. My LGS had a pristine M44 that I went to pick up yesterday, but somebody had got to it first.

It was $450 and I'd have no problem paying it.

I slimmed down on mine. I remember adding the to orders just to get free shipping because it wasn't much more than the shipping costs. Down to 2ea round and hex 91/30, m44, and have 1 all matching PU sniper. I'm torn between dumping all but the sniper or hanging onto them to give to my kids someday.

I'm really just being a little obtuse.   SKS's were really hard to get in the early 80's and 1895's were unobtanium, so it really isn't comparable.  The $800 Chinese SKS you bought in 1985 hasn't even gotten back to that value in 2022, even not indexing for inflation.  But once the wall fell everything was WAY undervalued for many years.  Only now we are seeing the true value of those arms.
