How many of you have gotten that cool hand me down?
My Uncle recently gave me his 1903A3
He served in the USARMY during the Korean War and bought it in 1953 after honorable discharge for 40 bucks !!!
He used it for many seasons for hunting and the stock was failing (hairline cracks) so he put a "sporterized" stock on it in the Early 70's. Mid seventies he lost interest in the Sport and it sat in a leather case in his attic for over 30 years.
He knows I have been into the sport of shooting for some time and used to borrow his .22 all the time as a teenager. Anyhow I was visiting him as I often do and he offered it to me. I was floored.
I took it home cleaned it up and it is in EXCELLENT shape.
Barrel (08-43) and receiver (4019XXX) appear to have been the original pairing. The muzzle and crown appear to be in excellent shape too.
I am going to see if I can find a replacement stock for her. I am going to take her out this weekend and tune her up after the GunSmith checks the function and headspace.
So... What cha' think? Hopefully I can pass it on to my Son when he is old enough...
