I have one, I have not shot it, yet....

It is a striaght pull bolt, that to me will take some getting used to, the finish on mine is good, but shows some blueing wear....

The wood on mine is good, just needs a good cleaning...

I saw the ad also, I would go for it, if I allready did not have one.....

Yes, they are worth it. I have 2, one that I would call rack grade, and one presentation grade. They both shoot 1.75" at 100m with irons. The ammo is a bit more than what most people are used to. The GP11 surplus is great ammo.

You can't go wrong with a k31.

PROS: Nice quality gun.  Positive and reliable ammo feed.  Excellent trigger for a military weapon.  Repeatable accuracy.  Sights are well calibrated.

CONS: Factory ammo is somewhat scarce and expensive.  Stout recoil.  Straight-pull bolt is not to everyone's liking.  Scope mounting can be a challenge.

Not sure if its a problem for others, but when the bolt is pulled back to eject a shell and cycle a new round, the brass will fly straight up and back a bit. Got hit in the forhead and top of the head a few times.

I like that feature! Most times, I can catch the brass in mid-air.  If I really slap the bolt back, the brass hits the tin roof over the firing line with a nice "p-ting". So far, I've avoided getting beaned by a shell casing.

I really like my K31. It was my second C&R purchase and is still my favorite. Well, maybe a tie. I'm rather partial to the Swede mauser too (at about twice the price though).

Someone said it like this:

If a straight pull bolt rifle with the quality of the K31 were made today, it would easily cost $2000.

I believe it.  I have two, one a walnut stocked beaut made in 1937 and one a beech stocked blondie made in 1953, I think.   The bores on both look like they are NEW.  The bolt assemblies all look like they are NEW.  They function flawlessly.   They also have probably the BEST trigger on any military rifle EVAR.

I haven't shot mine yet, but I have shot a K31 before... recoil IS stout, but they're all VERY accurate.    For $100 or so, they're a steal.

I agree with the others.

Run out to buy it now.

They are great guns, and a steal at the prices that they're being sold for right now.

If you pull the bolt back slowly the brass will hit you right between the eyes.  Of course I don't have any first person experience with this. <G>

I want one as soon as I find one in great condition. I passed on a few decent ones, but they were in the $150-175 range.

I did get some ammo though.

Alas, it will probably end up like my Sweedish mauser. Too expensive to shoot much.  But I think it would be a great deer rifle.

Do they have a peep sight for it?

I have a variety of C+R rifles, but the two that bring the biggest smile to my face are the M1 Garand and the Swiss K-31.  Both are fun guns to shoot and very accurate.  What else could you want?

The GP-11 ammo for the K-31 is excellent, but very expensive - about 50 cents/round if you buy it in bulk.  But the gun is so cheap, you shouldn't mind spending some money up front to buy a case or two of the ammo.

And if you reload, it's no more expensive to shoot than most other rifles.

Agreed on accuracy, the K31 is unbelievable.  I hate to keep repeating myself, but the blonde one below shot a 3 shot group at 50 yds. that made an oval hole out of a figure 8.  Those were the first 3 shots that I fired from it.

Regarding ammo, Aimsurplus has is for .39/round for the battlepack and .37/round by the case.  Not bad for match ammo.  If you compare that to Federal Gold Match 168 gr. BTHP at  .90/round (ammoman), it's not too bad.

SOG has them for $89.95.  Mine was in excellent shape, other than some dings in the buttstock area.

I have one and I love it. I don't think the recoil is all that bad personally. It seems like less than my Winchester M70 .270. I really want another one bad though. Once you C&R you can't stop!!!

Another great place to try is www.allans-armory.com. He just got a new shipment in and has some very nice rifles. The good thing about Allan's is that he rates each gun and gives a nice despcription, so you know what you're going to get. You pay a little bit more, but it's worth it if you're looking for a real nice K31 rather than just getting the luck of the draw at other places. Allan is a good guy and he rates his guns on the conservative side too.  Here's the one I got from him...

It is the finest made milsurp I have ever seen. Incredibly low price for such a work of art.

Ammo is pricey but once you shoot it, you don't care.

Oh no! You don't know what you're getting into!

Once you C&R you can't stop! You'll be looking for every excuse to buy another rifle! Don't ask me how I know . Don't do it!
