A friend sent me a photo of some rifles that he found at his parents house, and wants to know what they are.  One looks like a Mauser, but I have no idea about the other two.

The top one is a Mauser. The other ones I can't tell. If you can, have your friend post some more detailed pictures on the other two rifles, that might help.

Here are the only other photos that I have:

The middle one might be a Lebel. It has been a long time but it looks vaguely familiar.

The middle one in the top photo, with the built-in magazine almost looks like a Dutch Beaumont 11mm bolt action, but it's hard to tell from the pics.  Is there a date stamped into the buttstock on that one from the late 1800's?  If not, it may not be the Beaumont.

I'd say the one with the finger hook on the trigger guard was an Italian Vetterli-Vitali. Not sure about the spelling there. The Vitali part is the magazine; there was also a Beaumont-Vitali that had a similar magazine but the bolt would look different. Beaumonts had big fat straight bolt handles with V-style mainsprings inside. The Swiss also used a Vetterli design, but it looked different also -- had a two-piece stock and tube magazine.

I think that other one is what they call a "Zulu" shotgun, converted from an old muzzle-loader musket. Probably a French musket, judging from the shape of the hammer. Usually these have brass or bronze receivers. I think they were mainly made for use by African natives.

Just going by memory here, don't bet your life on it.

I don't have the slightest clue why I thought that might be a lebel. It definitely looks like a Vetterli.
