well, i finally took the plunge and picked up one of these classics. i've been drooling over the various mods here and would like to know what add-ons, modifications, and accessories the 10/22 arf.kom hive mind deem absolutely essential...

first thing i want to do is get a bull barrel and a hogue over-molded stock...what next? i'm not looking for a 100 meter tack driver but something handy and ultra reliable in all kinds of terrain and climate.

Volquartsen target hammer, reduces trigger pull to 2lbs.

Volquartsen extractor, never had a stovepipe after I installed it.

Bolt buffer, cheap and gets rid of the "clank" of the bolt hitting the metal pin in the rear.

The Green Mountain Barrels are relatively inexpensive...I've had great luck with the 2 I have. they have several stainless, which should help with your range of expected climates. Does Hogue make the over molded stock in the .920 barrel channel?

Both are great shooters at 50 yards.

Too bad you already got your barrel and stock. I just got a Krinker-Plinker setup and won't ne needing mine. I have a .920 fluted and ported blue barrel and a BC sythetic stock with harris bipod I'm gonna sell for cheap.

Yeah, the extended mag release and the bolt thingie are definites, along with the VQ hammer. Amazing how changing that one part can really make a difference.

Volquartsenhas their 10-22 hammers on sale on their bargain bin page. I swapped out all 4 of the family's 10-22s. I think that's the single best thing to do. The bolt buffer would be next or the extractor. Aftermarket barrels are nice too!! I got some Green Mountain seconds that pop up on sale on their site every so often. Go to RimfireCentral.com to read all kings of threads about mods on the 10-22!!!

Boy did that question step in it. A mans 10-22 is as personal as his sex life and so many vendors to help you. you need some local, touchy feely advice.

I finally got one myself, and man do I love it. I find myself shooting my 10/22 now more than my Ar

. More so because ammo is cheaper. Glad I stumbled across this thread, I was gonna throw a folding stock and all that other garbage on it. But, after throwing a cheapo Simmons 3-9x40 scope on it, I do believe I found my squirrel/rabbit sniping weapon. And something just looks right about a scoped/wood stocked 10/22 with a Butler Creek mag hanging out of it.

How much of a difference does an aftermarket H-Bar make on a 10/22? Is it considerably more accurate? So far mine seems to be pretty damn good, though everytime I shoot there is a pretty strong cross wind.

Get the best .920 barrel you can afford, then get the Volquartsen upgrades.
